I'm thinking about taking the family swimming/picnic there this weekend. I haven't been there for years and was wondering if anyone has been there this summer? Is it kept clean? Jellyfish? Safe environment?

There will be jellyfish, it will be crowded, it is clean.

If you go to the old fort, to the right of it facing the water, is a small beach.
We were there for an hour and never saw anyone.
It's a 5min. walk but I doubt anyone would run you off from this location.

There are a good many Hispanics (and Asians) who partake of Point Lookout facilities, but how do you know they are illegal?

We can call ourselves liberals and by default, won't need a shred of evidence or an inkling of fact.

Because AZ said they are!

Try Elms beach since it will be on your way to Pt. Lookout. It is FREE!! Nice beach and playground - maybe not as many illegals, not that there's anything wrong with that...... :buddies:

I stopped going there because the fishermen have a habit of leaving fish carcasses all over the place, and in this heat it smells awful.

The younger of my two daughters worked in the park for a summer job one year... She was supposed to be in charge of renting the fishing skiffs and other things that the park 'reportedly' offered visitors. She said the park was run down and barely maintained overall and her job bored her to tears because...all of the 'equipment' she was supposed to be in charge of renting was too broken and/or run down to rent..so she had little of nothing to do all day.

I take my kids to Camp Merryelande on St. George's Island all of the time. The beach is nice and quiet during the week but crowded on the weekends. The jellyfish are just starting to come in down there but in 4 straight days of being there we only saw one. There are picnic tables on the beach. There is a charge to get in only on the weekends but it's free during the week. :yay:

I tried to get there a couple of times when I had the bike out that way. The road is gravel and very tough to navigate on a big bike, had to turn around. Still don't know what it looks like there !
