Point of View: Desktop Computing Failed. Oh, Really?
I've written about this before, but it's a topic that just keeps on coming up. If all you read is ZDNet, you'd think nobody in his right mind would want a fast, powerful Core i7 Extreme system like this one - because, after all, desktop computing was a miserable failure. So much for Bill Gates' dream of putting a computer on every desktop.
Never mind that the desktop computer I linked to above is one of Dell's best sellers, with a rating of four and a half stars out of almost 400 reviews. That would seem to indicate that someone out there still likes desktop computing. Oh, and did you know that the Windows 8 Metro interface proves that the traditional PC is dead? That's what they're saying on ZDNet. Never mind the fact that there are currently around 1.5 billion PCs in use today and Gartner researchers predict there will be over 2 billion by 2014.
'Til next week,
