Police Car at Carwash

Jeff

Stop Staring!!!!!
I have also seen a person who was driving like a foll pulled over by an off duty officer. They may not have gotten a ticket but I am sure they got a talking to.
From listening to the police scanner it seems to me that off duty officers can and do pull people over. Usually not so much for speeding and such but Drunk Driving. Usually the off duty officer will call in and request an on duty officer to head his way.

This even applies to Officers not in their jurisdiction. I have heard of PG cops down here in St. Mary's who are out with someone for drunk driving and such. They call it in and stand by for an On Duty officer.

I think if they are in their personal vehicles they will simply follow them and report their location till an On Duty officer shows. If in a Marked vehicle, I have heard them pull people over. I bet I hear this type of call go out 2-3 times a week.

If I was behind them I would've walked up and treated them to a carwash..

I know this reply is late, but It took me a couple of days to get registered.
I have been reading the forums for entertainmaent for a long time. Most comments are so anti police and so far out there they don't deserve a response. They just make me laugh. Bad 10-32 don't get so upset. If you are the police, and you work hard that is all that matters. People in general love to whine and cry.
However, I would like to set the record straight. I am a local police officer. 1) The county does not pay or have any contracts to have our cars washed. The county does not even pay for the cleaning supplies. Some businesses use to offer free car washes, but that stopped atleast five years ago.
2) Yes there is an inmate at the Rt 4 Shop. He does not wash police cars. He is assigned there to wash STS buses.
3) Yes we do like to have clean cars. It shows pride and professionalism. You should be glad we take care of our equipment
4) Yes we can have an inmate at the jail wash our cars, but we have to make an appointment, and provide the cleaning supplies. It is easier to wash it ourself, and we don't have to drive to the jail.
5) Like everyone else sometimes there just isn't enough hours in the day, and we don't have time to wash our cars while off. So if time allows we will go to a car wash, and pay for a wash. I'm sure that takes less then ten minutes.
5) We pay taxes also!!! People seem to forget that
6) As for the light at 235 I would of shut down the turn lanes also. It is proven most accidents are left turn or fail to yield the right of way. Drivers are rushed and distracted. They don't always obey an officers direction.
7) There are 2 more gates that you could of used. If you choose to make a illeagal U-Turn then that is on you. If you cause an accident you will be the at fault vehicle.
8) yes we do have off duty use. When I was hired, I was advised of my pay, and my benefits. Off duty use is one of the benefits. We are required to respond to emerency calls if we are in the area. I have responded to many calls while off duty. I have wrote many citations and made several arrests. I have been the first officer on the scene of hit and run accidents, drunk drivers, and armed robberies, while off duty. There are alot of times when all the on duty units are on calls, and if not for off duty officers the emergency would have to hold.
9) Yes we do work shiftwork, nights, and holidays. Yes it does suck to work on holidays, and miss time with your family. It sucks to go to court on your days off. However, we know it comes with the job, and I never asked for your sympathy. I do this job to help others, and try to make my community a safe place. It is funny alot of time we have to help people that don't like us. They love to talk bad about the polce, but we are the first people they call when help is needed.
I hope this help to clear things up.

It was just a thought that I put out there. If the first post had never been made, I would not have replied. As I stated I could care less who pays to wash your patrol car. If it is requirement of your job, or your personal pride so be it. I personally try to avoid rides in said patrol car but do appreciate your desire and pride in what you do.

People whine, complain, moan and groan and that dear sir is life in a nutshell. It has nothing to do with your line of work because for the most part the rest of us law abiding citizens also have to deal with azzhats on a daily basis in our lives too.

You may be Johnny Law but we are John and/ or Jane Q Public.

...and if you cause a fatality to an innocent driver heading north while making your illegal u-turn, it doesn't matter because we made 235 and Pegg Rd safe.

This was kind of my whole point. Your strategy makes 235 and Pegg Rd safe but doesn't seem to take into account that you just moved the unsafe situation further down the road.

That's stupid. He didn't say to make the illegal U-turn. He pointed out that it was illegal and it would be on you. Go to gates two or three!

You just make stuff up, like the thin blue line, and the good old boys. You got nothing substantial to back up your argument except that you were put out by the light. Well, I am happy to say that no accidents happened and nobody suffered any injuries.

I know people whine and moan. I know thats part of life. That's why I told bad 1032 not to get upset. At no time was I sarcastic. I was just offering information on a topic that people were guessing about. I am respectful, and treat people as I would want my family treated when I work. However, I will take it to the next level when needed.
Also about the 235 light. The other traffic lights were operating, and could handle the north and south traffic just fine. People could use the other 2 gates and get on the base without incident. I glad you pointed out the illegal U-turns next time the light is out I will set up and write tickets for the u-turns.
Reference the thin blue line stickers that is nationwide not just in St Mary's. Anyone can purchase a sticker. They think it will keep them from geting pulled over, but it doesn't work. A thin blue line sticker has no bearing on you getting pulled over. I have arrested several people with a thin blue line sticker on the car.

I think you're too dumb to see my point. Mitigating danger in one spot doesn't do any good if the danger simply moves somewhere else. Open your eyes and see the big picture before you start high-fiving on job well done.

My biggest beef with cops around here is that they don't seem to consider the effects of their actions. Yesterday on the Radio, Heather said she was driving to work in the dark and saw a state police car parked with all it's lights off clocking potential speeders while smack in the middle of an at-grade intersection on Rt-5. Damn, that's a good place to hide. Doesn't matter if someone gets killed, as long as we catch a speeder.

I suppose she's out of her mind just like me.

I see your point, it is just retarded. In this post you are concerned about safety, and in the other post you are concerned about time getting work. Then you make stupid crap up about good old boys and thin blue line, but when you are proven wrong you change the subject. You hear someone say this is a good old boy sysetem and then that becomes your montra because you are too much of an ignoramus to have an original thought. Keep trodding along with your miserable existance.

Just like yesterday they were complaining about the Police doing seat belt checks, Picture this T bone and Heather, try going to someones house in the early hours and tell them their child or loved one has been killed in an accident and it could have been avoided by wearing a seat belt. Thats the worst part of our job, yes I have had to do it too many times,Them driving or being a passenger.

Quick question to the cops on here: Why doesn't the local SHA office have the ability to fix some of the lights, but CAN fix some of them? Don't know if you know, but I have heard on the scanner numerous times that SHA will be responding from Baltimore or wherever in "a few hours." Seems they could teach our local SHA guys to re-set the lights. Seems ridiculous to have 3 or 4 deputies and State guys tied up for hours directing traffic, waiting for SHA.

I don't know? Seems that they should be able to, but doesn't always work that way. It could have something to do with state roads and county roads, but I am not sure.

I don't think I was ever concerned about getting to work. Luckily I have a job that pretty much allows me to show up anytime I want as long as I log 40 hours a week.

It's about cops being ignorant of the big picture.

If they don't always obey officer's directions, then why would the cops set up speed traps that involve an officer jumping in front of moving cars waving his hands to stop.

Our motto...

"Safety is job-1 no matter how many lives it costs"

That practiced has been stopped due to the danger involved in many departments.

Fortunately, in Southern Maryland the VAST majority of people feel police do a great job. Perhaps you should go back to Fairfax.
