This wasnt what I heard presented!
The speach I heard had the tap dance in it about pediphelia being societys fault, and touching everyone, including the church (no pun intented), and the need for unity with pegan religions, which went along nicely with the photo of the pope kissing the quran.
I would have much perfered hearing this mass message. This message illudes to it in refrence to the church, and the churches responsibily to do it.
It would have been nice though, if he would have taken it one step further and just gave a clear presentation of the gospel while he had the ear of the world. At least its on his heart for the church to do it.
""the Church was born of the Spirit’s gift of repentance and faith in the risen Lord. In every age she is impelled by the same Spirit to bring to men and women of every race, language and people (cf. Rev 5:9) the good news of our reconciliation with God in Christ.""
At Mass on 4/17 the readings from Scripture were:
Acts 13:13-25
Psalm 89:2-3.21-22, 25 & 27
Jn 13:16-20
these are the same readings that Catholic Masses all over the world would be hearing on that Thursday.
At the Sunday Mass the readings all over the world would have been:
Acts 6:1-7
Psalm 33, 1-2, 4-5, 18-19
1 Pt 2:4-9
Jn 14: 1-12
Catholics can go to Mass every single day, and we hear the from the Bible every single day. If a Catholic doesn't go to Mass, he can certainly read at home.
The Catholic Liturgy is full of recitations from Scripture. For example, every day before receiving the Eucharist we recite the words of the centurion, "Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I (the servant) shall be healed."
The pope did not tap dance around the pedophelia issue. In fact, he addressed it every single day, publicly denouncing and apologizing. The crime of sexual abuse of children is not exclusive to the CC, yet the heirarchy is trying very hard to repair the damage that has been done. I've seen nothing of the kind from the NEA or the like when they find one of theirs to be the perpetrators.
Granted, the priests of the Catholic Church should be held to a higher standard, but the condemnation of all priests for the behaviors of a small percentage is grossly unfair. (not saying that is your particular attitude)
What Gospel words do you think B16 failed to present?
