Internet porn viewers 'should expect viewing histories to be made public'
Blogger warns that 'regular people' are the likely target for the next big internet privacy breach

If you've watched porn online this year then you should be prepared for your browsing history and name to be made public for the world to see, a US blogger has warned.

Brett Thomas, a San Francisco-based software engineer, has written in a post on his blog that if you've watched porn online in 2015, "even in Incognito mode", then brace yourself because "you should expect that at some point your porn viewing history will be publicly released and attached to your name".

Thomas says that if hackers were able to get hold of a list of logs that can give them an idea of a users' name, plus logs for sensitive websites like porn, then the two could be cross-referenced to put a name to a viewing history.

Those two hacks would have to be large-scale and are unlikely — and both must take place at the same time — but Scott warns that technologists should work harder to prevent such leaks from happening. "All that's needed are two nominal data breaches and an enterprising teenager that wants to create havoc," Scott writes.

Why would you care? Presumably you're an adult and can watch porn if you want. Don't do #### you're ashamed of and you won't have to worry about it.

Geeze, instead of going to the trouble of creating a list with the names of everyone who's viewed internet porn, why not just reference the phone book? Wait, do they still have phone books?

If you have nothing to hide then why do you wear clothes?

In all seriousness though, I went to an Internet Safety talk by the local police at a PTO meeting and there are a lot of reasons to get off the internet.

You might say you have nothing to hide, and that the only person who does is clearly breaking the law. If that’s truly the case, why don’t you leave your bank account details in the comments below?

Unless you are Robert Bork and congress subpoenaed his reading list at the library and maybe one of the videos he rented was on war and had an "R" rating which you might expect for a war movie.
When people can get your library reading habits and your internet habits then they start telling you what your motives are based on how they profile you rather than what your actual motives are.
Years ago I was reading an online article about guys that look at other guy's naked photos on the internet and the suggestion from the article is that some men just want an anatomy lesson and that it didn't necessarily mean they were gay.
And there are some people who will look at anything because they just take in information.

If you give people the opportunity and they don't like you, they will twist your words against you. It isn't a matter of having something to hide but why would you want your life to be personal like that? Would you just haphazardly tell people something unless you knew how people would react? Then why would you want information about you shared with strangers when they aren't your friends?

Most porn site admins really know what they are doing, some of the best in the business. I read a study that says you are way more likely to get a computer virus from religious websites because their admins are usually amature volunteers.

Depends on the religious website, I suppose, and its content. So many of those porn websites are down and dirty (ha) cheapos run by god knows who and not using the best technology, with sketchy ads from suspicious sources, filled with pop ups and redirects.

Anyway, neither here nor there, you're not in private when on the internet. You're about as public as it gets. So I'm not sure why anyone would expect privacy at all when it comes to their browsing habits.
