These things are great.
I like the sauteed in butter and garlic powder, then covered with cheese till it melts. I put it on a burger bun with onion.

I do however scrape the black stuff out of the bottom of them before cooking, dont know if you are supposed to, but the stuff creeps me out.

Got to agree with both points, they are good and I don't like to leave in the gills. I do prefer to grill them over charcoal with a little olive oil.

I bet there are as many who spoon out the gills as there are who eat them. Gills tend to discolor whatever they're cooking with, so it's probably better to scrape them out. But the portobellos are tasty mushrooms alright, they're like the steak in the fungi world.

I"m gonna try making a stuffed portobello (sp? I think it's spelled with either an a or o) this weekend. I'm thinking spinach, ricotta, mozzarella, tomato sauce, garlic, etc. :blahblah: It'll be a side in another attempt on an already delicious seafood pasta dish which I'm going to Waterfront this Saturday morning to buy fresh fish for (shrimp - heads on, scallops, clams, flounder, and squid (calamari). Never bought fish there, so I hope they have it all.

Do I obsess much? Yeah, maybe a little lately...it was this tread that got me thinking about it. :lol:
