He's catching sht but I'm not entirely opposed to this idea. My kids' senior year we had this discussion - "what are your plans?" "Hang out with my friends" was an unacceptable answer. "Work and earn money until I figure out what I want to do" was.

This is weird, so like if your family owned a business you wouldn't be allowed to go work for the business directly from high school? You have to go to college or a trade school first?

Plenty of successful people in business did not go to college, trade school, or ender the military.

There's room for improvement on his plan, for sure, but I like the basic premise.

I took a year away from school after HS, just to feel a bit of freedom. After a few months of not having money to feel free with, I got a job AND went back to school.
I did the opposite. Was making good money when I left for college the fall following HS graduation. Went for two years...dropped out and went back to landscaping because I was tire of being a poor student. Didn't return to college until 4 years later.

I wish I could find my old copy of the final exam for graduating from the Morris Brown School of Law and Sheet Metal Work. I recall a few of the more difficult questions:
Q: Leroy is living in his Buick Riviera parked in his uncles driveway. Is Leroy liable for a share of the property taxes?
