That is the kind of stuff I don't get. Should things be reinterpreted for black people? Are they not supposed to understand English? If I was black I'd be slightly offended by the insinuations there.

The site is EASY to navigate... four buttons!

This is like the myvoicedc.com from Fox5 - it just grinds me.

Why can't news be news - web sites be web sites - magazines be magazines...???

All this does is it takes everything a step backwards, infuriating whites because if whites have something like this they are tagged as racists... the blacks start chanting "Yay for us!" - it just drives a wedge between the two races after so much work has been done.

Exactly. They promote "African American Culture and Content for DC, MD, and VA" as if that is the only voice in the city that should be heard.

D.C. is ~30% white and ~19% other races. If anybody should have a website, shouldn't it be them, since they are the actual minorities?

No money to be made on 30% of the population (even though they earn 80% of the Gross District Product) :sarcasm:

The Dilemma of the Black Middle Class

by Sheryll Cashin
The following is an excerpt from The Failures of Integration: How Race and Class are Undermining the American Dream, by Sheryll Cashin, 2004. Reprinted by arrangement with Public Affairs, a member of the Perseus Book Group.

Black families of a certain means face a dilemma when entering the housing market. They, like all Americans, desire superior environments in which to live, work, play, and raise their children; their dream is the American dream. They want equal access to all of the resources society has to offer, but they are frequently forced to choose between two types of communities. They can live in a black enclave that comes with some costs but provides a spirit-reviving balm against the stress of living as a black person in America. Alternatively, they can join a community that offers a wealth of opportunities and benefits but where they would be vastly outnumbered by whites, a kind of integration they may not want.

Painfully, I have come to the conclusion that external prejudice against black neighborhoods makes it virtually impossible for members of the black middle class to form havens of their own that approximate the economic or opportunity benefits of a white enclave. Black communities, even affluent ones, bear burdens and costs that predominately white ones do not. Most of these costs can be tied either to race-laden decisions on the part of whites and predominately white institutions (do they really want us in their neighberhood - E.T.C.) to avoid black communities or to the propensity (in part fueled by discriminatory attitudes) of black communities to attract low-income people. Waves of black suburbanization have been fueled by the desire to escape the social distress of "the 'hood," including its crime and weak schools. But within the space of a decade, most black suburban movers will find that the social distress they sought to escape has migrated to them.

Hmm The "Hood" follows them as low income folks follow them ......

so it is a white problem low income blacks move into black neighborhoods and not white or some other minority neighborhoods .........

I always heard growing up "Blacks do not want to live in Black neighborhoods, because of crime" and other social Ills .......
