The Bush Administration piled on too. White House press secretary Scott McClellan urged the magazine to help undo the damage to the U.S.'s image by pointing out ways in which "our United States military personnel go out of their way to make sure that the Holy Koran is treated with care."
First of all, how is it "piling on" to ask for a news magazine to present both sides of a story? Or even to tell the truth in the first place???

I have a really negative impression of Muslims after this brouhaha. They'd kill people because of an unsubstantiated claim that someone flushed their bible down a toilet. Hello? How many Christians do you know who would do the same thing?

For two cents I'd flush all of THEM down the toilet. We're trying to "understand" their archaic religion and their third world savagery, but they're sure not making it easy.

You'd have liked this column from last week:

Here's a snippet:

"But there was no mention of deadly protests triggered in recent years by comparable acts of desecration against other religions.

No one recalled, for example, that American Catholics lashed out in violent rampages in 1989, after photographer Andres Serrano's ''Piss Christ" -- a photograph of a crucifix submerged in urine -- was included in an exhibition subsidized by the National Endowment for the Arts. Or that they rioted in 1992 when singer Sinead O'Connor, appearing on ''Saturday Night Live," ripped up a photograph of Pope John Paul II.

There was no reminder that Jewish communities erupted in lethal violence in 2000, after Arabs demolished Joseph's Tomb, torching the ancient shrine and murdering a young rabbi who tried to save a Torah from the flames. And nobody noted that Buddhists went on a killing spree in 2001 in response to the destruction of two priceless, 1,500-year-old statues of Buddha by the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Of course, there was a good reason all these bloody protests went unremembered in the coverage of the Newsweek affair: They never occurred."

Protests erupted in Pakistan and Afghanistan, though how much was actually attributable to outrage over the Newsweek story is a matter of dispute. Opponents of the U.S.-supported government of Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan may have seized on the report to stir up trouble.
I guess all the signs denouncing American abuse of the Quran and all the chants by the Mullahs we're enough to convince TIME magazine that its competitor's article set off the riots. Looks like MSM is circling the wagons in support of even their fiercest competitors against the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

We're spending an inordinate amount of time trying to endear ourselves to the Islamic world.

Why?

They should be trying to endear themselves to us, not the other way around. They go crazy when they feel they've been disparaged in any way, and they show their displeasure by rioting and killing people.

Hello, Mohammad? We look down on you because you suck. Quit sucking and we'll quit looking down on you. Duh. Islamics don't want to stop their savage and archaic ways - they just want us to stop noticing. Kind of like Democrats.
