Potential Relocation to Southern MD

My husband and I are considering relocating to Southern MD; however, we have to live about half way between Suitland MD and Lexington Park MD. There are so many small communities it is really hard to even get a handle on a good place to live. We are looking for good schools for our 8 yr old and toddler (eventually). From my initial research it appears Calvert County has the best school system...?? Please correct me if I am wrong. Would appreciate any insight into this you can give us.

Thanks Okiegirl

Dunkirk area is nice and there are a lot of cute places to live up there. Don't know about the schools, though.

1/2 way would be about Dunkirk / Sunderland / Huntingtown / Prince Frederick in Calvert county using Route 4 to go either way to Suitland or to Lex Park.

You sure, took me 50 minutes to get home (Hollywood - about the same north from 4 as LP is south from it) from just North of PF yesterday and it usually only takes me a little over an hour to get to Suitland on rt 5???? Maybe I had a bad traffic day!!!

Nothing to see here
Think from Suitland to LP is about 60/65 miles..30 miles from Suitland would put you in Huntingtown from my estimate, confused as to where you live... ....I live in Calvert(moved from PG 14 yrs ago) and like it, never have lived in St Marys or Charles so I can't comment on it.

First of all, stay as far away from Suitland as possible. There would be no need to relocate from anywhere to Suitland, or PG County if you ask me, but that's just my personal op.

As far as schools, check this link to the Washington Post. They've done a 2002 School challenge from K-12 that breaks everything down you could ever imagine and grades each school. They even have us on the top 414 schools on the national level. In short, Charles, Calvert nor St. Mary's are all that stunning and PG falls dead last in everything.

Seriously, PG County is notorious for bad schools. Calvert is generally considered the best county schools overall but there are good and bad in all three SoMD counties. I live in northern St Mary's County and we have an awesome school but Southern St. M's isn't so hot.

There's a bus from Charlotte Hall (northern St. M's) that goes to Suitland. The same bus stops in Waldorf (Charles Co). I don't know about Calvert County.

Calvert County is booming and houses are expensive because the demand is so high. St. M's has limited new construction, so that has forced house prices up too. Since there are few houses in St. M's a lot of people are going into Charles Co, which has forced housing prices up there too.

How many times do I have to tell people this?

Run....run....run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okiegirl...please reconsider. The last place you want to be near is "downtown" Southern Maryland (better known as Lexington Park).

Just my two cents.
