no weapons here. i feel perfectly safe in my area because the crime rates are low; not the minority population.
being different, in my opinion, is a good thing. it teaches you things that you may not see if you keep the blinders on. I had my first introduction to this as a young kid. my grandparents took me to N.J. for a week where I met this other little girl my age. When I started to talk to her, she looked at me with a puzzled look on her face. I later found out it was because she was canadian and spoke french, and understood very little english (and i spoke no french). somehow, that weekend, we managed to communicate (mostly through adolescent hand gestures) to get to know each other. Granted, she was also caucasian, but we came from different backgrounds. Just because she was canadian didn't give me a reason to shoot first and ask questions later.
it's lessons like this, in life, that I'm thankful for, and make me appreciate people for who they are vs what they look like.
