Potty Training Difficulties

Friend of mine has a 3yr old boy that will pee in potty but will NOT poo in potty. She's tried using a chart system with stickers. Tried bribing with money and big ticket toys. Taken away diapers/pull ups. Told him he will have to clean himself up after accidents (this did not go over well as he thought that was fun) and has offered candy and ice cream as rewards.

Nothing seems to be working.
He uses a regular toilet and won't use a toilet seat insert.
She doesn't have a floor type potty seat but is getting one to try.
He goes every evening at home but will not go IN the potty!
He has told her that he is scared to go in the potty.

Any suggestions on how to get past this?

Do a forum search. It's been discussed a lot recently.

Try putting Cherrios in the toliet and have him hit the target.
One square of toliet tissue floating in the bowl and sink it.

She said he pees in the toilet just fine... or did you mean to suggest he play "aim the torpedo"...:eyebrow:

Did a search but didn't see anything much different than what she's already tried.

Will relay about the tissue, never heard that one!

My youngest was the same way. Went #1 ok but afraid to do #2. He eventually gained the confidence to do #2s on the potty and has been trained since April. Just give the kid time. They will come around quickly.

You have to make them responsible for their actions.

When they poo in their pants, make them clean it out of their pants, and put the soiled pants in a bucket of water with bleach. They'll make a mess cleaning up their own pants....make them clean up their mess. They'll think it's fun the first day or two, then it gets ugly, they exhaust themselves crying and take a nap, then you can go in behind them and clean up what they thought they cleaned up. Never let them see you clean up after them. You have to make them think they're doing the dirty work.

Oops...almost forgot...then they have to clean themselves up. :lmao: It's been a while.

Took me a week to potty train gurl. Same age.

Sawry, I misunderstood this to mean he pees beside the toliet and not IN it. :lmao: I didn't see the poo part :lmao:

 Aim the torpedo, sounds like a good suggestion.

When my daughter went through potty training years ago, she did the same thing. Only #1 in the potty and #2 squattin in a corner with diaper/pull ups on. So one time when I saw her go in the corner, I waited till there was the point of no return. I grabbed her, took off the diaper/pull ups and sat her on the big potty. It was to late for her to stop. After she was done, I praised her so well for it and told her doesn't it feel much better than it being all on her butt. From that day on, she was completely potty trained in the big potty. I always kept flushable wipes for her in the bathroom too. Of course I know not everything always works out as planned.

How Can I Teach My Child To Be Responsible?

When we discipline through natural and logical consequences we teach children to become responsible for their behavior. Physical punishment, nagging and lecturing seldom works in teaching a child to act responsibly. They instead learn to fear us and the result is a parent/child relationship that is not based around mutual trust and respect. Our job as parents is to help make children accountable for their behavior.

Raising Responsible Children

Their were a lot more articles, but I only have a limited amount of time to do what someone else should be doing for themselves.

I read a book about 20 years ago about responsibility and consequences. A 2 or 3 year old is not too young to start learning.

If I don't put myself out, all the idiot mommies that are breeding these days will be walking around with 10 year olds still in diapers, and listening to some feel good psycho shrink on Oprah telling them to do it.

BTW, you're effing welcome.

Clearly you're having a bad day.

Not at all. I just have a strong dislike for people who are too lazy to use the resources that they have right at their fingertips.

Sooo......you're assuming that she/I haven't looked for info in any other place than here on this forum.

Dislike away - feeling is mutual for those who judge people they do not know.

Whatever  I'm just tired of todays young women spitting out babies and whining about not being able to deal with them. SSDD.

There go the assumptions again, you have no idea our age.

You remind me of the cashiers in fast food restaurants that say "what you wont", and don't know how to say "thank you" when they give you your change.

Is this because I didn't thank you for your 1st suggestion?
Sorry for the slight - Thank you!
I do appreciate the thought and consideration behind it.

However the 2nd suggestion with insult attached, "Their were a lot more articles, but I only have a limited amount of time to do what someone else should be doing for themselves."
Keep it, it wasn't needed nor appreciated.
