Power Save Mode

I will list my specs below, but i am having a issue with one of my computers. As soon as i turn it on, it goes to the memory check screen, then goes into power save mode. I thought it was a video card issues so i swapped it out with a slower and older card that was working fine in another computer, and it did the same thing. Everything is getting power on the system (cpu fan, MB, video card fans and case fans, dvd and cd rom drives, floppy light.. etc etc)

p.s. it is a old computer, maybe the battery on the MB died? would that cause a power save issue?


P4 3.2Ghz
WIN XP Pro
2GB of pc3200 ram (i think) heh its old
BFG 6800Gt OC
Seagate 120gh HDD
Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070sb
500watt PS coolmax

What would cause this problem? And shoot away with technical answers, i AM computer literate lol TIA

No it doesnt make it half way through it then poof lol Actually now that i think about it, it doesnt even get to the post screen most of the time, just every now and then, and i edited my first post lol I cant remember my MB's model # and i dont think i have any extra ram layin around anywhere sadly heh

Bummer...I'd say it is likely a RAM problem, or possibly a motherboard problem (which would obviously be a little more invasive a replacement :lol:)...but to answer your question about the battery on the MB, as far as I know, that is just mostly to keep things like your clock and whatever going when the computer is off. Shouldn't cause your problem, I don't think.

I'll try the ram from this computer i am typing on, as long as its the same or faster than whats in the other one :killingme Swapping a MB out isnt a big deal, just hope its not that lol better off buying a pre built comp for cheap, maybe bare bones or something from newegg or tigerdirect, then add what i already have that i KNOW works , i have tons of spare parts just not ram lol
