Since I'm not coming up with anything on Google...does anyone know of any local postpartum depression support groups in Calvert or St. Mary's? Neither of the hospital websites list anything about this on their websites that I could find. TIA

I had my first child in the early 70's, and nobody spoke of PPD. I thought I was going nuts, and didn't discuss my symptoms with anyone. I think if you contacted your local Health Department, they should be able to guide you in the right direction. I'd go with MarieB's suggestion first.

That's terrible that you went through that alone. My OB (for my second child) talked me into taking something right after I had my second kiddo. She said it was a low dose and would help me get over that hump. I was hesitant, but decided in the end to do just that.

I think it's important that a trusted doctor is aware of what is going on.

Back in those days, they didn't have antidepressants like they do now. All they gave you was Mother's Little Helper", which was Valium, or Phenobarbitol. I chose not to take them because I wanted to be alert, especially having a New Born. That was a horrible time in my life, but it was a hush-hush thing back then. Even going to a Psychiatrist was a no-no, and you'd have to travel far out of your neck of the woods to go to one, because you didn't want anyone you knew seeing you there. Luckily, I made it through it without help, other than keeping myself busy.
