Pre-work out foods

So now that I have hit my weight loss goal of 210 lbs, I am switching to more weightlifting/muscle building and less cardio. I know I have to increase my protien intake and eat right after a workout. I am looking for some ideas on good food to eat to give me energy for about an 1 hour to 1 1/2 of weight lifting.

nobody really

I need a nap
Planters makes a great new peanut butter similiar to their "NUT-rition" line. Its peanut butter with cranberries ("energy mix"). have it with a banana. i'm a slug before a workout, and this helps.

kinda high in calories so you have to be careful

Slow-burning carbs (Wild or brown rice, sweet potato, etc...), solid protein (meat, chicken, fish, etc...), low fat, plenty of water (all day and during the workout).

Im not a big fan of nuts, fish or peanut butter. I do eat chicken some days and I drink 40 to 60 oz of water a day, not counting what I drink during workouts. What do you all think of things like the energy/protien bars? Are they worth trying on days when I need something quick before the gym?

I have done the bananas but they dont seem to carry me through the whole workout. I allow myself 2500 calories a day, not counting what I burn during a workout so I am not too concerned about a high calorie count.

I was gonna suggest a Payday candy bar; I mean, you work off at least that much during a workout, so it won't show up as a love handle later. Right?

Complex carbs will give you energy. I also use a pre workout suppliment (Animal Rage). Make sure you cycle it because you can/will develop resistence to it.

Okay, I'll admit :whoosh: with regard to that statement.
I wasn't trying to be witty or humorous. I mean, PAYDAY advertizes "quick energy;" so eatin' one before a workout would help. Right?

I'll play along...

No, it wouldn't. Maybe for 5-10 minutes at best. Simple sugars burn too quick for energy and fat slows the absorption, so it's sort of a double negative.

Simple sugars after a workout is more ideal.. to a point.
