Precious...

Anyone read this book? Originally titled "push" but when the Oprah movie came out they released it as precious..anyone?

I keep seeing the movie trailor calling it uplifting and wonderful and hopeful...
I wonder if they drastically changed the story for the movie because the book I read was none of those things..it was painful, and uncomfortable, and whatever the oposite of uplifting is...that's what it was. I felt nothing but disgust after reading it.

I might have to go see the movie, against my better judgement, just to see if they changed it....for the better. They do that sometimes I guess.

Just wondering if anyone else read it? and what reaction you had?

I have read the book. It was hard to read based on the subject and the writing. It is written from the main character's way of speaking. I thought it was a good book (not great). Some of the subject matter and lanuage is harsh but over all it has a good book with a good ending. I am also planning on seeing the movie.

FInally ..someone who read it. Now my question is..would you consider the book uplifting? or inspirational? like the movie trailors say? Because I don't think it was at all.

And the situation is so completely unbelievable...that it made it hard for me to get into the character..I just didn't believe any of it. I think it had some very funny parts though..her attitude is very funny...

Those 2 words don't work for the book definitely. The only thing inspirational is her strength. I would describe the book as a "good overcoming a harsh life ending". Not a happy ending type of book.

I think the situation is a little unbelievable due to the fact that I can't believe there are people that ignorant in this world. But if I think of the story as based in the early 80's it is more believable.

her attitude is part of what make the movie not a "happy ending" because she will never be normal after the life she lived. there is never going to be a "wonderful ending" to a situation like that.

It did have it's moments of funny and caring in it.

What is the book about? like the brief story line... i think i might have briefly heard something about a movie with this title, but don't remember what it was supposed to be about.
