And, as a public service reminder: If one is in a vehicle accident, and you need a tow? DO NOT let the popo call one for you. Call the nearest tow company yourself, or use your AAA membership and have it towed to your house. If you do not do this, the towing company WILL charge you their "emergency" towing rate. So what could be a less than $100 tow, if you call, is now closer to $400, in addition to their lot storage fees, or more, if you let the popo on the scene call for you instead. Carry on.

If you’re towed due to an accident insurance should pay for the tow regardless of “emergency” tow fees. If not, find a new insurance company. Also you may not have the option to call your own tow if involved in an accident. If the tow company you choose has a long ETA then no, the popo will call one. They have a duty to open up roadways. AAA takes takes forever when a disabled vehicle is blocking lanes of travel.

I will keep it short, parking pass in window, guess parking spaces full, so we park, 1/2 hour later no car. Happy New Year. Saw them make 700 bucks in 40 min, am I in the wrong field.

So what your saying is that you parked in someone else' spot and got towed. Not sure I see the problem. If I lived there I would be happy they got you right away, rather than wait for hours.

Yep, predatory towing. Sucks, but legality depends on locality. some places have banned such "trolling" practices. Complexes enter into contracts that allow the tow company to troll for misparked cars.

and I'm sorry that happened to you. Really sucks.
Yep any one who gets a tow I am sure gets irate, strangers taking your thousands of dollars car away from you, and say pay me and I will give you what is yours, and what you did was minor, but in good intention of at least getting a pass in your window. All legally shady, God bless America.

I'm gonna shout out to Settler's Landing. They had plenty of parking and it wasn't assigned. One less thing to fight with your neighbors about.

I own a Townhouse in my neighborhood community with TWO assigned parking spaces to me There are very few guest spaces in our neighborhood. The planning of the parking situation was very poor, at best. BUT, it is what it is and I can tell you I am a royal btch when someone parks in my space. I don't care one whit why you're in my spot - I pay for those 2 spaces, and I get pissed if I have to go find whomever has parked there. I have gone door to door to find out who was in my spot. I've also blocked them in when no one would anseer the doors. Not 3 months ago, I finally found one of the idiots when I knocked on the last house. They (of a different nationality) were apparenly eating dinner and in broken English he asked if I wanted it moved "right now". Um, YEAH!

Don't care if I was beyotch. Get out of my parking space NOW, bud. 🙄

Seems they're not authorized to be operating the way they do..... First image from the USDOT.
Maybe someone should call St Mary's County States Attorney to open an investigation?
And no insurance on file with the proper regulatory agencies.

See, you're onto something here, something I've brought up a couple times about ambulances and our Volunteer Rescue Squads.

Because they are volunteer does NOT mean they have to be a free service, just non-profit.. I still don't understand why they don't bill for every call. In PA the rate was in the neighborhood of $500 a call (they were volunteer as well), if it was a legit call, your insurance covers it, if your insurance didn't cover it they didn't chase you down or sick collections on you it was just carried on the books as an unpaid call. $500 per insured call is a LOT of fundraising they wouldn't have to do, and MAYBE, just maybe, cut down on the free taxi ride service to Prince Frederick.
