Preparations for Supreme Court Nominee

Interesting article with a few humorous things...
"It's been a very busy 72 hours," said Ralph G. Neas, president of People for the American Way, who is leading a coalition of liberal groups poised to oppose Mr. Bush's nominee.
Goes well with FT's political cartoon...of course, the right is doing the same...
Progress for America, a conservative group that has pledged to spend $18 million to defend whomever the president nominates, said it was gathering family photographs of a list of potential picks so that it could televise positive biographical commercials within two days of Mr. Bush's announcement of his nominee, which could come as early as next week.

It irritates me that both sides have already decided to support or oppose any nominee, even before Bush has made his nomination. They are declaring than any nominee's judicial resume is null and void. Pathetic.

The Republicans SHOULD be prepared to support whoever Bush nominates - there'll be no reason for them not to, considering he's a two-term President and has the right to pick who he wants. My issue is with the Democrats who think two-term Presidents don't reflect the will of the People and are ready to fight him tooth and nail no matter what.

...for this current state of affairs. The Bork fight under Reagan and then the Thomas hearings under Bush I set the tone and timbre for the modern era of Senatorial advise and consent. The Republicans had the opportunity to return the favor in kind over Justice Ginsburg under Clinton but declined. Remember the blood bath over her confirmation? No? There was none.

Now, we have the Democratic party claiming the singular right to consent to UN Ambassadors, FDA heads and janitors, thus, it is all out political war for the Democrats and they, Supreme Court nominees, are the greatest prize; lifetime appointments.

Plenty of public issues are muddled as to who is right or wrong and certainly plenty more are open to simple difference of opinion. But the acrimony and emotional nature of todays advise and consent duty and the responsibility for the attendent governmental disfunction and wasteful national divisiveness lay firmly at the feet of one side; the modern Democratic party.

It won't stop or get better until they put duty above party...or 5 more of them get sent home by their constituents.

Release from DNC Headquarters...

Drudge:

"The Democratic Party stands in firm opposition to the potential nomination of Pete to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. His disturbing record of abject normalcy stands as testement to everything that is wrong with the Nation today and, frankly, everything that ever went wrong. Anywhere. Anytime.

We find it disturbing that the Adminstration would even consider a henious fiend such as Pete. Had they merely consulted us, as the Constitution clearly requires, we would have gladly steered them in the right direction and away from the extremism, thoughtlessness and absurdity of so controversial and repugnant a nomination as represeted by this...this...Pete.

The will and voice of the people shall be heard and the Democratic party stands at the ready and of firm mind and dedication that thou shalt not pass.
Send us a nominee all people of good will and faith can support. Woody Harrelson isn't doing much these days. He'd be great."
