Preparing for the coming food shortages associated with the dark, cold years

“We have had the most extraordinary year of drought & cold ever known in the history of America. . . . The crop of corn thro’ the Atlantic states will probably be less than 1/3 of an ordinary one, that of tobo still less, and of mean quality. The crop of wheat was midling in quantity, but excellent in quality. But every species of bread grain taken together will not be sufficient for the subsistence of the inhabitants.” --Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Albert Gallatin, 8 September 1816.

1816 was the year without a summer. It was the trough of the Dalton Minimum (not even a grand solar minimum) and was exacerbated by the massive eruption of Mt. Tambora in Indonesia in 1815, which darkened the globe. Violent eruptions tend to coincide with solar minimums.

Recently, I’ve written about the Modern Grand Solar Minimum (GSM) here and here, predicted to run from 2020 through 2053. The trough -- the darkest, coldest years -- is predicted for 2028 through 2032. It’s a once-every-400-years event.

Contemplating several years of low harvests, on a global scale, with perhaps more years of lingering bad weather, is largely outside our experience. My grandparents and parents lived through the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. Mom’s family farmed wheat. Dad’s folks were just plain dirt poor. They all suffered. No matter what else might happen in our lives, our families, our neighborhoods, or our country, our world is facing predictable dark cold years, and we need to prepare.

Up. Identified. Lase. Fire. On the way.
Maybe?

But I can't help but note that this sounds like the Right's version of the Left's never-ending "climate emergency" porn.* So color me skeptical. Skeptical because "Science" has become so agenda-driven that it has eroded the Public's trust.**

* For an example of the Left's long history check out this short vid (I would have thought Spock would have known better):

** To be fair, good "Science" is still being done; it's just that it is often hidden behind paywalls. More concerning is that good "Science" is crowded out by "popular science" promoted by the likes of quacks like Bill Nye the Non-Science guy, Neil deGrasse Tyson, etc., "professional" societies taken over by activists who are more interested in activism than sector professional competence, and journalisming journalists who want to push whatever is the Lysenkoism o' the Day the political Left needs to promote to continue its hell-bent goose stepping toward silencing opposition and gaining perpetual power. Yes, I like run-on sentences....)

Dr Ralph Eschelman (Calvert Marine Museum) did a GREAT presentation on local "Relative" sea rise as well as climate change.
This lecture was presented at Sotterley and up at North Beach. I required my students to watch it & I believe the vast majority failed to put in the effort to understand the insights of Dr Eschelman.
Long, but informative, very well supported, and especially important to THIS area.
Hope it continues to get circulated.

I’m more concerned about this country’s largest farm land owner, Bill Gates, then I am about floods and droughts affecting our food supply

I commented about that, too, a while back. Bill Gates was a piece of you know from his beginnings. He became ultra rich from Capitalism, and is, now, trying to take the Country down that gave him that opportunity. Just like Bezos; another example. He/they are sick you knows. And, from your postings, over time, I know you work hard with your farm and hardware business. Thank you for fighting the good fight, and being a patriot. You go! Keep on keepin’ on. 🇺🇸
