President Orwell...

It doesn't seem like he thought this one out. I agree that if you suck off of the public teat you should be required to meet certain requirements. Preventive car is a great investment. As long as you expect public assistance for your major medical care, you should have to submit to preventive care as well.

I just don't like the idea that this is to be imposed on people who are responsible enough to stay off of the public teat. Why should I be forced to submit to bureaucratic healthcare?

Yes, there is a problem with the cost of healthcare. There are people who cannot afford the care they need. A solution is needed. Why can't the solution fix the problem? Why does the solution have to include people who don't need a solution?

Most Americans don't need universal healthcare, but because some do we will all have to use it? Didn't the fall of the Soviet Union teach socialists anything?

President Orwell would be more like Bush with his extra Constitutional government spying on U.S. citizens.

Do you have anything to add to this topic, or did you just stop in for a drive-by Bush bash? You continue to sound like a broken record.

Can you defend Edwards' ideas? Do you agree with him or disagree?

Let's see what I'd rather have done to me:

1. The government spying on me. I'm not doing anything worth a damn that they would be interested in, so what am I really worrried about. Oh except maybe my mug ending up on YouTube. I don't care about that, but you sure don't want it.

2. The government telling me who my doctor is, when I must see him/her, what I must see him/her about, the government telling me what's good and bad for me, the government telling me that I need surgery and waiting 6 months for it, the government telling me "you missed an appointment off to jail with you." The government telling me "your kids don't need those vitamins, they need ritalin. The government telling me that my poop is not the right consistency (how'd they know this. They must be SPYING ME!) so "take this laxative. The government telling me I've had too much to drink in my own home (how'd they know this. They must be SPYING ME!) "no more beer for you". The government telling me I'm not allowed to smoke anymore (yes, I said that Vrai) because it would cost them (the government) too much. The government telling me I drive too slow or too fast and I am too much of a liability.

Forest. I see your comparison.

Why do you hate Bush so much? I guess he kicked you out of the oval office when you tried to give him a hummer. It worked with Clinton but you got pizzed when Bush turned you away, isn't that right?

I am so very blessed
The cost of health care would be astronomical.. There are a lot of things I don't get done, and a lot more tests a lot of other people don't get done.. How many of us get yearly physicals or check ups?? How often do we get colonoscopy's or digital rectal exams.. how many women get yearly breast exams??

If the government gets involved one, they are going to require it.. and 2 90% of the people that don't do a lot of things now, once they are "free" they'll be lining up at the doctor's door.

Methodically disorganized
So I absolutely would not have the right to not go to the doctor if I so wished.

What's next - regulating what I'll have for breakfast and when I may use the restroom?

...caper!

Preventative care may be a great investment, but for WHOM? Why, the individual, of course. John Edwards has acutally now made the case that, yes, all your base are belong to the government!

The GOVERNMENT! He is making the case that it is an INVESTMENT in government resources, of the government, by the government, for the government, in YOUR health! Not your health as in 'you should eat right, exercise and get enough sleep' but in you being REQUIRED to not do anything healthy or even suggested to be healthy, but to simply be required to to come in, be investigate, poked proded and...and become a...statistic.

You know, it's been shown that smoking is a great cost saver for countries with socialized medicine and pensions. The sooner you die, the less you cost.

Of course, I'm sure money would never be a factor in the Edwards utopia...

This made me think of the beginning of the movie, The Island where Lincoln Six Echo pees when he gets up and the toilet does a urinalysis on him and tells him that he can't have bacon...

...but that is an example of rational thought. Our society does the opposite and makes policy, cigarette taxes, based on the presumed COST of smoking and that is the entire basis for the original tobacco settlement; that a given business' product COSTS society soooo much through its use AND the profits made are so enormous that that business must choose to give the GOVERNMENT billions of dollars on an ongoing basis so the government, the government, THE GOVERNMENT may recoup that loss.

Never mind that there is no loss.

Never mind that if there is one it is the PEOPLES loss and not the governments.

Never mind that the product is legal and one may choose to use it or not.

People like Downey don't want to be held responsible. People like Edwards smell money. And we, the people, willingly walk into voting for folks who think this way and absolute conflict with the constitution, liberty and common sense.

Think about it; You MUST go to the doc. What if you engage in risky behavior that is threatening your health? What then? Why, a government program would seem reasonable with this mindset.

...well, President Bush is reading your e mail.

President Edwards wants to read your DNA. What of it, smart guy?

Just make sure your poop is of the correct government-specified consistency or you will be force to take correctol.
