Private School + Charles County

Just asking how many of you live in Charles or St. Marys Countys that plan on putting their kids in Private School next year. I am attending an open house at Grace Lutheran and would like to know if any of you guys have an info, good or bad on this school. Right now my daughter attends Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy and I just feel she is not getting the education she needs in the public schools because teachers are taking so much time correctly Little Johnny and Little Mary, half the class is over. I hear this about most of the public schools and have heard St. Marys is getting just as bad. Her class size is very small but seems most are bad.....mine is starting to have behavior problems and if I lived in California....I may be in jail... :wench: if it keeps up!

I know someone who put their little girl there this year for K. She loves it and I think she will go next year. She told me about open house and mine is going into 5th but I think there aren't a lot of spaces already and I don't want to make a decision right now. Mine is in Charles also and the teachers themselves tell me they have a harder time year after year with behavior. Since when did adults forget to say "no" and mean it!! Seems if you don't jump, the opportunity is gone.

I don't know what school your child goes too, but if yours goes to Mitchell or Matula and you are zoned for either Piccowaxen or Milton Sommers you should be fine....anywhere else, I would switch.

My daughter went to Matula and my son goes to Somers, which are GREAT SCHOOLS. My sister has a couple of friends who's kids are in Grace Lutheran and love the school and say that it is great, as well as I got married there. But my sister is also zoned for Mt Hope Nanjemoy and she refuses to put her daughter in there and is on the waiting list at Grace Luth for next school year for her daughter. THe good thing is she will be 4, so she will be able to start K at Grace Luth

We just looked at a home for sale that was Somers. I too have heard good things. My daughter IS NOT going to Stoddert. We have another year and I worry if we move that things can change that fast. How about LaPlata High. Good things?? I have one in McDonough and will not switch him but the house we looked at is LaPlata.

I like McDonough, had a son graduate there in 2003, LaPlata is just as good....stay away from anything in Waldork...these kids are going crazy up there and nobody is doing anything about it.....

I live in Waldorf and my son is zoned for Somers until next year when Davis(the new school opens), my daughter goes to Wade which is the #1 Elem School in Charles County (it is just as great as Matula).

YES I agree that kids in Waldorf are getting OUT OF CONTROL, BUT I also believe that it BEGINS with the HOME and if parents are raising them right then they will NOT act right, whether it be in school or public.

I believe the same thing, but I'm not gonna stick around to see if things are gonna change. We loved where we lived in PG and moved because of the schools, bought some time in Waldorf and now I'm doing it again for my daughter. You cannot assume that it will change or before you know it your kid is through school. My son would not be where he is now if we had kept him in PG and I see the same things happening here. It is all of the kids also.

I live in Marbury about halfway between Mt Hope and Gale Bailey Elementary. My oldes boy attended the G.B.s pre-k and we woefully regretted it when we transitioned him to ANS. Both my boys go there now and so will my daughter.

We were torn between Grace Lutheran, ANS, and Waldorf Christian Academy. ANS just seemed to have more to offer to us than the others and was more convenient to where we live considering you must drive them to and from school.

My son went to Waldorf Christian Academy back in 98 and I LOVED it, I think that with him being in there HELPED him succeed where he is now. The waiting list there is LONG I wanted to get my 2YO in there, Good Shepard also has a school there too, that I have heard is good, so I am thinking about putting my youngest over there.

I love Gale Bailey. 3 of mine went there, one still there. The principal there now is wonderful. :yay:

GLS is a great school. My daughters were there for 2 years and my son currently there. It's a wonderful school for your kids. The entire staff is great from the principal, teachers and daycare staff. They encourage parent participation in aspects of the school which is different then most publlic schools. It's also very convenient for us based on the fact that they have before and after care. For the working parents it's great! Cost for enrolling your child is also very reasonable. I can't say one bad thing about GLS. Our daughters loved it there and my son is also enjoying it now. They also now teach the same curriculum as public schools which is good. I don't have a opininion for the other private schools in the county but GLS definitely gets my vote!

Here's there website
