President Bush said on Thursday he planned to start work immediately on reforming America's ailing Social Security retirement system and predicted a long slog ahead.

"We will start on Social Security now. We will start bringing together those in Congress who agree with my assessment that we need to work together," he said in his first news conference after the bitterly contested presidential election.

Thank Heaven!

Finally a politician with the cojones to deal with this multi-generational ponzi scheme. I'm not in favor of cutting anyone off that has paid in for years and years and has budgeted this income into their retirement, but the whole thing is based on a steady growth in population.

Frankly I'm concerned that after the baby boomers get through with it there won't be anything left. I also don't like the way that congress "borrowed" from social security for years and years.
