This Friday, October 23, Katy Arnett, professor of educational studies, is delivering the opening keynote for the (virtual) 2020 Languages Without Borders conference, a joint endeavor between the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers and the British Columbia Association of Teachers of Modern Languages.
According to the website, the conference will feature “over 100 high quality presentations,” and “offers an exciting range of professional development sessions and keynotes discussing the latest L2 research and innovative, exemplary classroom practices.”
Titled, “Evolving Inclusive Practices for the (Digital) Language Classroom,” Arnett’s interactive keynote invites participants to explore ways to hone and expand their inclusive practices within the language classroom. She will also discuss policy, research, theory, teaching tools, and teaching philosophies as they intersect with the idea of what it means to foster proficiency in a classroom in accessible, relevant ways for all students.
Professor Arnett is a former high school French teacher and Fulbright scholar. She has explored inclusive practices in a variety of language learning settings. She is the author of “Languages for All: How to Support and Challenge Students in a Second Language Classroom” (Pearson Education Canada, 2013) and, with co-author Renée Bourgoin, “Access for Success: Making Inclusion Work for Language Learners” (Pearson Education Canada, 2018).
