Professor of Psychology Elizabeth Nutt-Williams and colleagues recently published an article entitled "Cultivating Authentic Leaders: Toward Conceptual Coherence and Sustainable Practice" in The Journal of Values-Based Leadership.
As a follow-up to their empirical study of global authentic leaders (Williams et al., 2021), the authors wanted to better understand and articulate the construct of authentic leadership. They offer a conceptual framework for practicing and sustaining authentic leadership based on an ecological model, focusing on the dynamics of both individual and systems perspectives. Additionally, they offer recommendations for practicing authentic leadership that allow leaders to explore the inputs and outputs of their leadership "tank" across multiple ecological levels.
