I have an old RCA 52inch Projection tv (the big black box) model number
P52926S and serial says it is manufactured Nov 1996. I use only for old VCR tapes x about 1 million of them. My question is or problem is one of the three colors seems to stopped working. I still get a full picture although with a red tint. I tried playing with adjustments and no luck. I read a post from a tv tech via internet who says there was a problem with using led free solder and the inline soldered fuses could not take the load. I do not know if this is the problem or should I look at other avenues. I have other tv's I use for normal DVD's and such although I like this old Projection tv for older VCR movies. I paid around $1200 years ago and will put some money into fixing if it is not overboard, or should I get the preacher to give it the last rights??? any help would be appreciated

I had something similar about 10 years ago on mine. If I recall there are three tubes over lights (green, blue and red??) and each one contains fluid... the fluid gets cloudy and needs to be replaced. I believe its a tube or maybe a bulb issue. Repair wasnt expensive, it was more PITA getting it to repair place and back. I was able to read directions online on fixing it on my own off the internet and was able to order the fluids and bulbs, if I recall correctly. Good luck!

Behind the speaker grill is a panel. Remove the panel there is a black box there hanging with 6 controls on it. 3 are marked focus and 3 screen. You want to adjust the screen. Be careful, if you turn these too high you can damage a tube. Do real small adjustments and see if it changes at all.

Also, what kind of video cable is hooked up? Wouldn't be component would it? (Red, Blue, Green, White, Red)

I had a 45" Zenith projection TV set in the mid 80's and one of the pix tubes burned out. You will need to look at each of the tubes with the set on. Be very careful not to touch anything inside because of the lethal voltages.

If one of the tubes is not lit (giving off it's red, blue or green color), you should NOT adjust the controls for them unless you know something about TV repair. As Chris said earlier, if you turn the screen adjustment a hair too high, you will destroy the tube.

If any tube is not lit, turn the set off, unplug it and wait 15 minutes. Then go into the back and unplug the socket from the back of the tube. Make sure it is clean and free of dust, then plug it back in. If it lights up, you're good to go. If not, there are bigger problems and you should call a repairman unless you are good with a volt meter. Some places will give you a free estimate if you have them fix it. If not, they will charge you something for it but at least you'll know what's wrong...
