Promoting Islam In Public Schools

(excerpt)

Public school children in grades K-12 are being assigned textbooks that misrepresent and, in some cases, glorify Islamic beliefs and history – often at the expense of other religions and cultures. The apologetics and indoctrination common in university Middle East studies programs is being carried into public schools by contentious, ahistorical, and inaccurate textbooks written by those same Middle East studies professors.

As soon as I saw the topic title I thought 'Starman or Marie .... probably Starman'

Not so fast, oh ye who are in major denial.

CAIR Spokesman, Ibrahim Hooper, has declared his method of converting America to Islam would not be through violence; he would do it through education. My niece is a teacher's assistant in California and has confirmed that such curriculum assignments leaning toward "peaceful Islam" have indeed been incorporated in their studies - such was a required assignment for incoming Freshman at University of North Carolina in 2002 until several Christian students groups protested the required reading. The assignment was then optional.

Any doubts of the posted article should be addressed to the source rather than dismiss this as an "urban legend".

Better yet, check with the textbook publishers to see if this ain't so:

Houghton Mifflin Social Studies
Across the Centuries
Lesson at a Glance
Chapter 3, Lesson 2: Muhammad and Islam (pp. 58-64)

The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Culture and Values In the 600s, the prophet Muhammad founded a major religion, Islam, which spread across Arabia and became a way of life still practiced widely today.

Ask students to share what they already know about Islam. Without commenting, write their ideas on the board. Then discuss how religion is an important part of many people's lives. You might want to mention any mosques or Muslim practices evident in your community. After reading the section, ask students to review the comments written on the board about Islam. Circle the comments that were correct, and erase those that were not.
Lesson Outline
Use the Lesson Outline to preview the content of the lesson. You may wish to print it for your students as a guide during reading.

Check for Understanding

Have students work in pairs to create a chart reviewing key teachings and beliefs of Islam. Encourage students to include explanations about how these beliefs affect the everyday life of Muslims.
Have students create a story map chronicling events in the life of Muhammad, including his trip to Mount Hira, his teaching in Mecca and emigration to Medina, and his eventual return to Mecca.

Found the Z key! woot woot. Try the off button next.

My computer doesn't have an 'off button'. I think you're refering to the power button.

Also, it isn't a good idea to just shut it down like that. You should really log off normally.

edit: Also, I was already aware of the 'z' key location.

Let me re-word this for you, and see if you have a problem with it.

Once again, I see this as having children learn about a prominent religion. I sure as hell know I had to learn about all the major religions of the world. And guess what? At this moment in time, I neither have a bomb strapped to my chest NOR are in contact with any radical muslims.

Nope. Would you have an issue if I was?

No, but it explains why you are not familiar with the Fundamental Islamic ideology and readily accept the "politically correct" cliché about Islam being a "peaceful religion". I doubt that the school curricula would include the Qur'anic verses that commands Muslims not to take Jews and Christians as friends, to strike terror in the hearts of the Unbelievers (non-Muslims) and that it is allowed for a Muslim husband to scourge his wife in punishment if she is disobedient in any way.

Ignorance is not bliss! Read the Qur'an for yourself; I challenge you - then compare it the New Testament teachings of Yeshua.

Can you speak fluent arabic? Do you understand the "sayings" of arabic?

Im fairly certain that they are NOT requiring school age children to read the quran. All they are asking is for the to gain a fundamental understanding og the Quran so they don't turn out to be pieces of #### like you, who take the media at face value and assume that everything is good and happy with christians.

To be honest, If you point of view is you only want "peaceful" religions to play a part in schools, then forget about christianity. Blood battles, wars, imaginary creatures, etc. Heck no! Go pick up buddhism.

LOL - C'mon Xaquin,

You already know my answer but now I'd like to know your answers on the following:

(Hint - if you get stumped, read the Qur'an and Ahadith; sayings of Muhammad and compare them to the New Testament)

1.) First, please define for us what your perception of a "True Muslim" is;

2.) Next, please explain your understanding of a Muslim's ideology and perspective on Jews, Christians, Unbelievers (all non-Muslims) as taught in the Qur'an;

3.) Next, please explain how a Muslim receives salvation, according to the teachings of Muhammad.

4.) Next, please tell us if you think that Muslims believe that Yeshua (New Testament Jesus) is The Divine Son of God and Saviour of mankind;

5.) Next, please tell us if Muslims are allowed to convert to Christianity at anytime without any negative repurcussions and/or threats against his/her life;

6.) Next, please tell us if Muslims can paint pictures of Muhammad and hang them in their living rooms;

7.) Next, please tell us if Muslims are allowed to own a dog for a pet;

8.) Next, please tell us if a Muslim female can publicly or privately have a Jewish or Christian boyfriend without any harmful repurcussions from the family;

9.) Next, please tell us if Islam teaches that a woman is deficient in religion and that it takes two women to equal the testimony of a Muslim male;

10.) Finally, (I could go on) please tell us if you believe that Muhammad was the "last and final prophet of God" and if you believe that his authority supersedes the authority of Yeshua (New Testament Jesus).

Hey moron, quit avoiding my questions and comments towards you. All

Do you think any of that matters? Billions of people around the world worship this religion, and instead of your children growing up and being a hate-tossing prick like yourself, let's hope they get cultured and realize, "Hey, I don't have to be an azzhole to every person that isn't white, with blonde hair and blue eyes and is a lutheran"

Yea, did you grab that one there?

THIS is the problem with the United States nowadays. Idiots like yourself forcing the next generation of people to NOT think freely, to NOT make their own judgements, and instead only allow biased teachings in the school.

To be completely honest, I think ALL religion should be taken out of school. If I want to teach my children about christianity, then I will. If I want to teach my children about islam, then I will. BUT, if you are going to have a section on christianity, then I damn well want lessons in islam, judiasm, buddhism, paganism, etc.
