I am considering having a propane fireplace installed in my home. I’m looking for comments on the local dealers / installers of such stuff. Good, bad, indifferent. Your experience?

Do you already have the fireplace and chimney, and you're just looking to install the propane portion? Or do you need the whole mess?

If the room is large enough, get the type that does not require a chimney. Chimney type=wasted heat.

I have the fireplace 'hole' and chimney. The insert hole is a little large.
The chimney is composed of cement block for the first five feet in
height, the rest is wood. Yes, I am looking for someone to install the
insert, tank (and run a seperate line to my propane BBQ grill).

The only "local" gas company here in Lexington Park is Taylor Gas. I've purchased several gas logs from them over the last 10 years, and always been very pleased with their service.

Some of the other propane dealers in the area will try to lock you into a contract on gas, or jack you around on the tank or some other way.

Another vote for Taylor Gas. As Oz said, with some other companys you'll pay a hefty fee for the tank. TG gives you one price for the entire set up and after your first fill you're free to purchase propane from anyone. We're on their auto-distro schedule tailored to the winter months.

Is Taylor Gas down in the Park, do they service Northern St. Mary's (Charlotte Hall)? I have a wall heater for secondary heat in the family room that needs servicing and I am having hard time finding someone to look at it. Suburban Propane (who I, at one time worked for (13yrs) when it was Pargas) wont even come out since Im no longer a customer, and United either said same thing or was really expensive for service call since Im not a regular customer there either. Maybe Taylor Gas could be my answer. Think I will call when I get home today.

Taylor is GREAT

Taylor Gas is a great company to work with. They are courteous, prompt and efficient. They can do the enitre job, install the logs, get the tanks in, etc. They use a reliable plumber for any necessary interior gas lines and he is very reliable and does good work also.

Taylor did two gas fireplaces for me and a gas cooktop. I have been a customer of theirs for about 15 years. 8 Years ago during a terrible snow storm, I ran out of gas because their delivery man forgot my automatic delivery (he doesn't work there anymore). Frank Taylor, the President and owner of the company, left his home in Breton Bay, drove to Lexington Park, got a delivery truck and came to my house in Breton Bay to deliver me gas as we were getting cold. Why did he do it? Because his "on call" pople were already out. That is the sort of service they provide. AND they are very active in the County and good about giving back to the County.

That's a great story! Bernie Taylor installed my gas fireplace logs... Plus, their family members (especially Frank) have been very involved in our community for as long as I can remember. They might not have the shiney nationwide corporate logo, but the Taylors know how to get the job done, treat you right, and price fairly.
