Man they seem to be all over the map. How many of you guys lease the tank compared to buying a tank. Also how big of a tank do you have and how much do you have to fill it up along with what your running off of it?

We get our tank free (not really free), pay an extra $0.10/gal. and can only purchase from the tank owner.
Tank size is 250 gal. Just filled up at $2.50/gal.

If you buy your own tank, you can shop around for different fuel prices.

Who do you have? I use Taylor but I'm lookingto change. My dad had Taylor but just went with SMO. I use it for cooking and my clothes dryer so I pay more than someone that heats with it.

Taylor is cheapest on gas so far but because we are only using it for a cooktop and fireplace to start I have to buy the tank.

Suburban Propane will let me lease the tank for like 5.00 a month but gas is like .40 cents higher.

I also called United and they are way too pricey.

I didnt even think about smo.

I am so very blessed
I use Taylor Gas and have been very satisfied with them. We use the gas for our fireplace, which we use frequently, but it only serves as a back-up to our heatpump. I just paid the bill this morning, and they topped off our tank with 50.2 gallons at $2.65 per gallon. With the Energy Tax, the final bill came out to $138 and change. Not too bad, and the fireplace keeps the house really toasty and heats it up VERY quickly. :yay:

I bought my gas fireplace from Taylor, and I believe that the purchase came with the tank. I am almost certain that I don't rent it.

If you only use propane for heat, some company's will hit you for a monthly charge even in the summer. Taylor does not do this. Fuel oil costs more in St. Mary's than in Calvert because of an energy tax but I don't know if that applies to propane also. Taylor charged me $2.70 yesterday.

You may want to ask about a budget billing plan also. We have that for our fuel oil. They charge you a flat fee each month so you don't get slammed with astronomical bills on any given month. At the end of the season, if you have a credit, they refund or, if you have a balance due, you pay it off before the start of the next season.

ETA: Because we signed up with the budget billing plan, they capped the price we will pay for fuel oil this season. If it is less, obviously we get the cheaper price.

I don't know if propane does the same thing but probably worth checking out.

Happy Camper!
We use Taylor, we are on the monthly budget plan (we pay the same amount each month year round) but I think right now it's at about $2.60 per gallon. We have two 100 gallon tanks and when we moved 5 years ago, we paid a refundable $200 deposit ($100 per tank).
