Protein?

Can you take in as much as you want in a serving? I've always stayed within 50g mark while shooting for that 1g per lb. a day But yesterday I was looking through a bodybuilding mag and the guy they were interviewing was going over his typical day... one of his meals included a 100g protein shake! Since Ive never heard of someone taking in so much at a time I just had to ask

As far as I know, there's no upper limit to the amount of protein you can eat.

However, a 100g protein shake?

I'll bet that tastes like straight ass.

You can take in as much as you like, however, your body will only process what it can and the the rest will be expelled through the urine. 50g a day is not much if you are exercising and trying to build muscle. Until your body gets used to the increase in protein be prepared for the $hits. Once that is over, constipation, so eat plenty of greens :)

That much has got to be incredibly hard on the kidneys..I don't think it is healthy, even if the guy was huge!

Here is the safe way to calculate it.

How Much Protein Do You Need?

Plus, research has shown that while weight lifters NEED more protein than other folks..more than they need does not seem to help build muscle mass. So more doesn't equal better.

You should take in at least 1g per pound of BW if you are working out....vigorous (sp?) training i've heard as much as 2-3 which at 200 lbs is crazy to try and keep up with...

Different people synthesize protein different...steroids help i.e. 100 grams at a time..

I'm like you I stay around the 40-50g per shake.

Cool. I wasn't sure if I exceeded a certain number, would the protein just be a waste. I'm sure there's no magic number but still.... Just looking for an easier way to pack in 250+g a day. Guess I'll stick to what Ive been doin

it is alot harder than you would think isn't it? I haven't been trying to hit those numbers for awhile but will be starting probably in another month or so...right now just trying to burn off all the crap...hate protein shakes...if you find one that you think tastes good and mixes well let me know...

Yeah I just started shooting for those numbers about 2weeks ago. Guess I got used to the 150g Ive been doin. Definately struggling on ways to get creative. I'm using Gold Standard Whey - tropical punch. Not the greatest but not too bad either. I just throw 2 scoops in about 24oz of water and roll on.

Please post publicly if someone finds a protein drink that tastes good. I have yet to find one that doesn't turn my stomach. A friend of mine recommended muscle milk and I almost tossed my cookies.

The RTD's for MM and the low carb one .....i can't rememeber the name...they taste good...but either the cals/carbs are high or you have to drink 3 of them to hit the 50g mark..and those things are expensive so its not cost efficient..

I shoot for 120-170 grams of protein per day....just with food intake, no protein drinks. It is REALLY difficult to do, trust me.

My diet requires me to have a minimum of 75 grams per day. If I don't reach high(er) numbers, I definitely feel the effects of the shortage.

Care to share some the things you eat?

I tend to gravitate to food items that are protein-rich, and shy away from lots of carbs, although I do not totally eliminate carbs.

Here is a good starting point to get an idea of protein-rich food: Protein - High-Protein Foods and Amount of Protein in Each Food

Here's a site to help you determine how you should split out your food to best reach your nutritional goals: Carb, Protein, Fat Calorie Calculator

Obviously, the trick is to maximize the high protein, but still make choices to minimize the fat and carb content. Sometimes, it's not so easy to do.

40-60 grams of protein per meal at most. 1.5g-2g per pound for those looking to make strength and size gains (along with a balance of healthy carbs and fats).

not particular brand but a good mixture, I used a serving of the Jello sugar free Chocolate Mousse in my protein shake, and it was awesome!

@ 1 cup water, 1 scoop protein powder, the mousse, and handfull of ice

Jello Chocolate Mousse- 10 carbs, 60 calories, 2 grams fat that stuff is the BOMB!!!! so chocolatety!! (lol is that a word?)

But I usually buy GNC whey protein powder, Picked up EAS cuz it was on sale at BJ's but I thinkl I prefer GNC
