a. Proverbs 29:4 Or who give
Funny.... as I read through these, in the morning, I think of stuff and people in my life today. They all fit. Where it says "Ruler" I pop the president's name in there.... it works. Where it says something about parents.... I pop my name in there.... regretfully.... that works too... I am a horrible mother, relatively.
The commentary this morning is from bible-studys.org. Figured I needed a different perspective.....
Verse 7
The righteous man is not a respecter of persons, and he realizes the plight of the poor and helps them whenever he can.
The wicked cares for no one but himself. Everything the wicked does has a selfish purpose behind it.
Verse 12
A corrupt leader will draw around him corrupt people. Allow lies and you will be surrounded by liars.
Whatever rules the ruler sets are rules for all the people. A wicked ruler who listens to lies can expect all of his people to lie, also.
Verse 17
When you train a son correctly, you have nothing to fear from his behavior. A good son brings pleasure and good memories to his parents.
(In Prov. 22:6), we learned that we should train up a child in the way he should go. Since it is axiomatic that early training secures lifelong habits, parents must teach God’s Word and enforcing it with loving disciple consistently throughout the child’s upbringing.
Verse 26
We see by this that the only true and lasting Judge is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Judge of the entire world and will Judge the ruler and the ruled alike.
Many seek to get special treatment on the earth from a ruler by doing special things for him, but the Judge who decides our fate for all of eternity is the Lord.
The moral is to seek the Lord’s favor, since He alone can and will exact justice.
I was watching the "camp meeting preacher" this morning. I know that's not his name... he's apparently from a family of preachers and claims to have been raised poor. His claim is because his dad was a preacher.... with a low salary.... with a lot of kids.... he couldn't have more than one piece of bologna on his bread. He claims that eating a tomato sandwich is a sign of poverty. [To me it means the tomatoes are ripe and life is excellent]....Anyway... this morning he was preaching about wisdom.... and money.... he's always preaching about money..... He said.... wisdom is seeing the difference.... right and wrong... left and right.... good and evil.... wisdom is seeing the difference. He said his dad taught him that if he didn't tithe every week... he would go to hell.... or some other earthly horrible thing would happen to him.... so he tithes regularly because his dad might be right. That preacher, IMHO, needs to learn the difference between fear and love.
This preacher claims he has "made it" and now he has money.... so he can have two pieces of bologna on his bread. Poor guy doesn't know that with that attitude he's going to miss the taste of that sunkissed sweet tomato blanketed in a layer of salty, peppery, whipped mayo and soft white bread. He thinks he has made it.... but he missed the boat. That tomato sandwich beats a fat bologna sandwich hands down.
I may not be rich by his standards..... I might not have "made it".... but God really treats me well.... Yesterday I enjoyed a fresh ruby red grapefruit.... it was delicious right out of the skin.
I feel so sorry for some preachers.... money money money and board members..... must drive them insane. Maybe that's why only one church out of seven got anything resembling a pat on the back and "well done" from Jesus in the book of Revelation.
