Proverbs 6:20 My son, keep your father’s command
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
21 Bind them always on your heart;
fasten them around your neck.
22 When you walk, they will guide you;
when you sleep, they will watch over you;
when you awake, they will speak to you.
23 For this command is a lamp,
this teaching is a light,
and correction and instruction
are the way to life,
24 keeping you from your neighbor’s wife,
from the smooth talk of a wayward woman.
25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty
or let her captivate you with her eyes.
26 For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread,
but another man’s wife preys on your very life.
27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap
without his clothes being burned?
28 Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scorched?
29 So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife;
no one who touches her will go unpunished.
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

Now this sounds like something Solomon would have conjured up. Don't sleep with another man's wife... get a hooker [concubine] instead! Yep... sounds like Solomon might have come up with this.... a man will 700 wives and 300 concubines would have no problem with drawing up a contract or calling a priest.
The commentary this morning is from the blueletterbible.org site. All the sites are preachy... this is preachy with a lesson.
When you roam, they will lead you: The word of God is living and active. When it is cherished and kept close, we benefit from its living power. It then will lead us, it will keep us, and it will speak with us. Anyone who wants God to lead, keep, or speak should begin with cherishing God’s word.
Proverbs 6:22 presents God’s word as a person who helps in many ways.
A guide: will lead you
A guardian: will keep you
A companion: will speak with you
A guardian: will keep you
A companion: will speak with you
The commandment is a lamp: Solomon seems to quote Psalm 119:105 (Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path). When given attention and properly valued, God’s word brings light to us in our darkness.
To keep you from the evil woman: Here Solomon spoke to a specific place where wisdom from God’s word can help. God’s word and wisdom will never lead us to the evil woman, or keep us with her. The light of God’s word will wisely keep us from her, and speak to us better thing than her flattering words.

See preachy.... I noticed that not one commentary discussed the children learning from their mothers. I find it interesting... with 700 wives and 300 concubines.... Solomon only has four children. I wonder... were these women under Solomon's protection rather than being purely breeding stock? If Solomon had a problem with adultery because of the problems his parents had over the issue... it might make sense that he would "protect" women. We're all a little insane... but 700 wives, 300 concubines, and only 4 children.... that's insane. Being the son of adulterers must have left a mark.... right?
