Proverbs 6 It's Natural

Proverbs 6:people do not despise a thief if he steals
to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
31 Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold,
though it costs him all the wealth of his house.
32 But a man who commits adultery has no sense;
whoever does so destroys himself.
33 Blows and disgrace are his lot,
and his shame will never be wiped away.

34 For jealousy arouses a husband’s fury,
and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
35 He will not accept any compensation;
he will refuse a bribe, however great it is.

Lust is as powerful as the will to survive.

Let's be honest here.... Women and children were commodities. A son was a great big deal. Women and children worked all the time... cheap labor... and the size of the family back then... helped a man get ahead... the first part of the power puzzle is the procurement of a mate.

THE LAW...
Leviticus 20:10 If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.

Laws concerning theft were a little more survivable. Check out Exodus 22. If a woman isn't married... the price for "seduction" is the going "bridal price for virgins" to be paid in silver.

Women and children were a commodity.... available for a fair price. Lust could be fatal and stealing for survival was understood but it still had consequences.

That's the way it was way back in Solomon's time. So... according to the law... David and Bathsheba should have been put to death... they were adulterers. Instead... Uriah the Hittite was murdered on the battlefield and the baby that resulted from their affair died as well. Years later... their legal heir, Solomon, is apparently writing warnings on adultery.

None of them would have survived an election in 1950 when I was born.... the directors couch was in the middle of it's heydays... and lust was a dirty little secret.... not so much today. Now no one cares.... Well... no one but Jesus...
