I am A+ certified and I have worked in the computer industry for the better part of 4 years. I know more about computers than you could even pretend to know.

How do you know it wasn't their site? Anyone can build a website. Make money per number of hits. Hacking legit news site and redirecting it to yours seems like a very good way to increase hits and increase revenue.
How do you know it didn't send some backdoor trojan in?

I see your point though. Protecting data is top priority these days. I know of a few people that run their business with seperate systems completely off the internet (in regards to their financial data). It's a pain, but they figure it's in their best interest and their client's best interest to take those steps.

It COULD be. Just like the days or yore when clicking on an advertisment would make the host site money, you clicking into a porn site can generate the people point you there money. Just like the junk mail we get..

That's a good point - didn't think about that. To go through all that trouble for just a couple bucks seems pointless to me - those affiliates don't really pay all that much. But I suppose you never know.
