Plan on using the High Occupany Vehicle lanes on I 95/395 this Friday? Think again.

For the 1st time ever, HOV lanes on Interstate 95/395 will be closed on Friday, which is a federal holiday.

Virginia Department of Transportation officials say the lanes are closing to the general public in order ease traffic for the dedication of the new National Museum of the Marine Core in Quantico. :patriot:
The lanes will be reserved for the 300 buses that will transport the expected 15,000 people to the ceremony.

People going to the ceremony will be bused there along the HOV lane from the Pentagon or the Stafford Airport.

"Instead of having all the buses lining up on 1-95 and the main lines we can keep them in the HOV lanes and have the traffic run a little bit smoother," says VDOT spokesman Ryan Hall.

HOV lanes will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Washington's 14th Street Bridge to State Route 234 in Dumfries.
