Psalm 125 A song of ascents.
1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people
both now and forevermore.
3 The scepter of the wicked will not remain
over the land allotted to the righteous,
for then the righteous might use
their hands to do evil.
4 Lord, do good to those who are good,
to those who are upright in heart.
5 But those who turn to crooked ways
the Lord will banish with the evildoers.
Peace be on Israel.

This is from the easy English site.

Are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved: The pilgrim who came from afar was impressed with the stature and standing of Mount Zion, the prominent hill upon which Jerusalem is established. The one who believes and trusts in the LORD is promised the same security and he or she abides forever. Our place in His love, His new life, and His gracious purpose lasts forever and cannot be moved.
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous: This was the protection God promised to His people who trusted in Him. In Israel’s history, that scepter of wickedness only rested on the land when God’s people were stubbornly unrighteous and untrusting in Him.
Peace be upon Israel: Psalm 125 ends with a prayer pronouncing shalom upon Israel; essentially, that they would be the good that enjoy blessing and not be the wicked who suffer exile.
If I were walking to Jerusalem..... with gold sewn into my clothes to keep it safe from the robbers..... so that I could purchase animals for sacrifice..... I would be singing about protection too.

When these psalms were written.... Jesus hadn't been to earth yet. There was no prayer.... Jesus hadn't taught prayer yet. There was only behavior. Humans had to behave.... and if they followed the rules.... God would take care of them. BUT.... if they failed to follow the rules.... God would take care of that too....
