Enduringword.com has a good commentary this morning.

Psalm 136 is a special Psalm, with each one of its 26 verses repeated the phrase, His mercy endures forever. Psalm 118 repeated that phrase five times, and through the Hebrew Scriptures the phrase has somewhat of a liturgical sense to it, as if the assembled people of Israel said or sung it in response to the direction of the Levites leading singing and worship. Ezra 3:11 indicates that this phrase was part of a responsive singing among God’s people: And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever toward Israel.
Therefore, with Psalm 136 we picture a great multitude of the people of God gathered in the temple courts. A priest or Levite calls out a reason to give God thanks, and His people respond with, “For His mercy endures forever.”

OK... fact... God just keeps loving us.... it's really amazing to me that no matter what humanity gets into.... God just keeps loving us.

When I read these verses I thought of two things.... the first was a church service in Charlotte, NC. I had been a Baptist all my life [a whole 15 years when this happened]. I went to live with my grandmother.... and she was a Presbyterian. The church was a short trail through the woods behind the house. I remember my first time hearing this was in that church.... everyone knew the verse.... I didn't know it was going to be the same all the way through. I thought it was a Presbyterian thing...like a hymn. I didn't know it was a Psalm from the Bible.

The second thought I had was of the Temple in Jerusalem... the big one... the one David planned and Solomon built.... and there were people as far as the eye could see.... lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of people.... and they were all saying the same thing.

God just keeps loving me....
