Leonardtown, MD (April 18, 2025) – The Maryland Commission on Public Health convened two meetings earlier this month as it starts reviewing recommendation submissions from workgroups. The group also hosted nationally acclaimed Mr. John Auerbach as a guest speaker, who shared his perspectives about public health challenges and resilience strategies as the field adapts to new realities.

The Commission will spend several meetings focused on discussing submissions, followed by a vote on each to determine whether the submission should be advanced to the draft slate of recommendations. After an initial review of all the submissions is complete, the Commission will finalize and adopt the slate of recommendations at its June 5 meeting. The slate of recommendations will be posted for a 30-day public comment period.

Twelve recommendations were reviewed and voted on during the April 3 and April 15 meetings. Nine were advanced to the draft slate, and three were recommitted to the workgroups to address feedback from the Commissioners. The workgroups will continue to draft and submit recommendations for consideration over the next month.

The Commission meets again on Thursday, May 1, 2025, with Dr. Meena Brewster as the presiding co-chair. The session will be accessible online and recorded for public review at the Commission’s website. Reminders and other important information will also be shared on social media through LinkedIn (@Maryland Commission on Public Health) and Instagram (@md.coph).
