WJLA's very own Scott Thuman, covering Jimmah Earls service was the Casteroil of the year....so far. His sickening rambling of Carters Administration, (a simple Southern Gentleman who got things done) was never-ending. He didnt care about politics said he.... He built house and liked black people....

Sorry Grumpy, I "misspoke" in my last post. I was actually a teen when Jimmah was president. I voted for Reagan in my first presidential election. I had my timeline confused.

Almost everything about Carter was weakness. From wearing a sweater and lowering the thermostat - to his tepid response to the Russians in Afghanistan - the Panama Canal - and his handling of the “misery index” - to the atrocious rescue attempt.

I once read a story at the time where he confronted the Russians for using chemical weapons in Afghanistan. They bluntly denied it. He then placed the defoliant on the table on some branch or leaf they found. They looked him in the eye - and again denied it. He was astonished because he couldn’t believe they would LIE when they each KNEW they were lying. I remember at the time thinking - idiot! These guys WILL lie even if the truth serves them better.

At the college I worked at we had a large Iranian group in the student body, leading up to the revolution it was all fun and games with these fools (them running around supporting the revolution and posting drivel on the bulletin boards in the student union and assorted buildings) it was kind of irritating. However, when the ayatollah Khomeini recalled all Iranians studying abroad, they went nuts the crying and gnashing of teeth was something to behold. They were all gone within a week, never to be seen on campus again.

The Iranian students at my high school that I personally knew were big wannabe Americans because that's why their parents got the hell out of Iran and brought them to the US. They Americanized their names and learned to speak fluent English. There were protests at the capitol and on UNL campus, but the protesters were largely white college kids, not Iranians.
