Pulling the stick out - Part IV: Snickers ad pulled

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - A commercial for Snickers candy bars launched in the Super Bowl broadcast was benched after its maker got complaints that it was homophobic.

The ad showed two auto mechanics accidentally kissing while eating the same candy bar and then ripping out some chest hair to do something “manly.” One of the alternate endings on the Snickers Web site showed the men attacking each other.

The Human Rights Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation complained to the maker of Snickers, Hackettstown-based Masterfoods USA, a division of Mars Inc., which also makes M&M’s and other candies.

OK, so... We have to b!tch and complain about everything in our society, don't we?

So we can't laugh at that... but GLAD will no doubt support a t.v. show that includes "serious" gay men, no matter how much the public hates it.

They definitely need to pull that stick out... but, uh, somebody else is gonna have to do it. :shudder:

This is ironic, because I thought it was the gayest commercial ever.

It would appear so. If the media/courts/businesses/whatever would tell all these complainers to STHU maybe this trend would die. But when people cry and get their way, it just encourages others to do the same.

That's the way it should work. If the ad grosses me out, I won't buy a Snickers. If the ad offends gays, they shouldn't buy Snickers. If they offend enough people, their profits fall, and they make smarter decisions next time.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been telling my more liberal friends (the ones who want smoking banned in bars) for years, vote with your dollars!! We do not need more laws or more official protests. Stop supporting companies you don't like, and they'll either change their approach or fail.
