Pulse stars Kristen Bell, of "Veronica Mars" fame, as a college student who finds herself at the heart of a supernatural mystery involving pasty phantoms who use wireless technology to invade our world. The involvement of Wes Craven, the horror maestro known for Scream, A Nightmare On Elm Street, and The Hills Have Eyes, was promising, but this is yet another watered-down, disappointing horror film failure. Besides an endless series of sudden loud noises and a rare bit of disturbing imagery, there's nothing to raise the pulse and the lifeless cast of borderline-unknown young adult actors fail to impress, spare Kristen Bell, whose performance is acceptable, if unspectacular.
Overall, file this away with Boogeyman, The Grudge, and When A Stranger Calls as another bland horror film aimed solely at undiscerning teens. If you want a real scare (and aren't squeamish), see The Descent instead. Pass on Pulse.
