Pup ate a huge turkey leg

bone and all...

This is my 9 lb terrier, AGAIN.
So I took her to the vet, AGAIN.
And, she got an x-ray, AGAIN.
And, she got fluids, AGAIN.

But, the good news is that the turkey leg had meat and skin on it, and she chewed the bone pieces into tiny fragments and those fragments have moved into the intestinal track. :yay: She just has one hell of a stomach ache. :ohwell:

Anyway, I read about this prior to my decision to take her to the vet but I wasn't about to experiment on a dog that is only 9 lbs. and dehydrated. So, after the vet told me her findings, explained everything that they were going to do and what medication they were putting her on, she giggled and said, I know you are going to find this strange but....

Dog ate bone or sharp object. Cottonball remedy works!

^ That is pretty much what she told me, but, instead of using all Half & Half as a dipping base, she suggested dipping some of the cotton ball pieces in Vaseline or A&D Ointment.

She is now sleeping in my lap after having her cotton ball/hairball wet dog food formula.

And going :offtopic:

*To the man who had to put his pal down tonight, if you read here, you and yours are in my prayers for the loss of your black fury friend*

Your loss put our emergency into perspective, that although our pup has cost us a great deal of money since coming into our home, she got to come home and we will enjoy every moment of time we are so fortune to be given. Hopefully, you can find room in your heart to make a home for another pet in need. :huggy:

As soon as she said, I know you are going to find this strange but.... I blurted out "COTTON BALLS." She said, you know about that? Apparently, this is something new the vets are trying and they say it works.

I would have never thought that! :dork: Your puppy ate it with the ointment? Dogs like the strangest things :lmao: Thanks for posting the info (although I hope I never need it) and I am glad she is doing better. I think she is part cat and has 9 lives.:howdy:

Your puppy ate it with the ointment?

She gobbled it up once I put a little wet food on it. She is feeling much better, but we are back on meds. I say WE because I have to stay up late and give them to her and as you well know, this will be my  4th time with rounds of meds since June. This time, 7-days. I was just grateful she didn't have to get another surgery, nor does the vet feel this poses any risk, just watch the poop.

I'm glad she's ok. AGAIN.

I'm also glad I didn't let S keep her decided to give her to you. *biggrin* You're such a good mommy.

And P, you might ought to think about pet/vet insurance if she's going to keep eating turkey legs and wood pieces.

We just love her to pieces.... Hopefully, she will remember how miserable this made her feel. She certainly didn’t forget the needle, because as soon as she saw the vet had the needle in her hand, she started crying. She is back to normal now :yikes: but she was very miserable for 24 hours then she woke me up at 1, 3, and 5 a.m. to go poop the other night and it all came out, cotton and all. :yay:

I don't know about the pet insurance thing. I did some research and they want medical history. I can see them reading my application now, thinking this lady is  to think we’d insure her goat, I mean dog.

She did get a new DOG toy today (like the basket she has isn't enough ), a crab, has ropes for legs and makes noise. It is bigger than she is and she hasn’t quite mastered jumping on the sofa with it yet, but it is funny as heck watching her try.
