Puppies at the Flea Market...

One of that saddest sights I have seen in a while. About four different litters of pitbull puppies and a couple more of both german sherpards and some kind of terrier. About 6 were piled into a small plastic container cold and shivering cause on Saturday it was rather windy. Believe me, if I could I would have taken at least 2.....if I didn't live 4 hours away, and if baby daddy wouldn't ring my throat for it. :(

I hate seeing those dogs up there. I seriously doubt any of them know the first thing about breeding. Friend of mine bought one up there and the poor thing nearly died. "They" didn't know they were selling a sick puppy. I heard one woman say her dog had puppies and apparently there was something wrong with her milk glands and she had to bottle feed the puppies. She then preceeded to say she got rid of the mother because she was of no use to her anymore. I wish someone would have thrown her away.

The bad thing is, even though we feel like we are doing the right thing by buying those puppies, all we do when we do that is give them more reason to keep breeding their misery.

The only way these types will ever stop is when the money dries up. As hard as it is on us to turn our backs and walk away that's what the public is going to have to do.

What all of you should've done is call Animal Control and/or the Humane Society. Describe the vendor, their location and the animals that are in danger.

I'm wondering who I could contact about it, think the ASPCA would get involved? Yeah at 150.00 dollars a puppy? They don't care about who the dog goes to...they figure quick cash for them. It truly is a shame.

I'm really not sure, I know that not long ago a number of puppies were confiscated from a group of people selling on the side of the road. these pups all wound up at the shelter where I think the healthy ones were released to rescue.

Maybe someone will speak up that knows how that came about...

Otherwise, I would suggest calling the Tri county animal shelter in Hughesville MD and talking to them about it...

We drove by there on Saturday. Woman was there, across from the market, selling several different types of puppies. She looked like the same woman I saw last year IN the market. When I saw those puppies last year, they all looked to be ill.

The women my friend got her dog from said she was the breeder but once the dog became sick, she changed her story and said she was selling it for someone in PA. Judging from his last name you'd swear he was Amish. It is hard to turn your back on innocent animals but you're right, if the moneys not there, they probably wont be either.

I wonder if we could snap cell phone pictures of the woman and her puppies and post them here?

I think they were busting people for horrible puppy treatment over the summer at the market....

What would that accomplish?

Public shame, letting people be aware of the problem, I hate puppy mills and this lady sucks monkey nuts for making puppy machines out of dogs when we are killing so many everyday because of overpopulation. If she wants to whore something out she should look in her own pants instead.

Well, when you put it like that... you'll get no arguement from me. :yay:

The Amish are big into BYB and puppy mills, especially in Pennsylvania.

I definitely didn't see Amish people with these poor dogs, i saw heartless and uncaring individuals trying to make a quick dollar for personal gain. Animals have feelings to, and to see something like that shocked the hell out of me!

Often times the Amish are the puppy millers BEHIND these "uncaring individuals trying to make a quick dollar for personal gain" The Amish have already made the $$ off of their "crop" (which is all dogs are to them).

I used to love the Amish farms in PA, UNTIL I brought a lab puppy into my group that came from an Amish Puppymill, this dog was almost killed due to it's breeding and lack of socialization (and a first dog owning family that had more than they could handle).

I can't enjoy the countryside anymore, wondering which "idyllic" setting is housing 200 dogs....

Virginia Authorities Recover 1,000 Puppies - News Story - WRC | Washington

A Virginia county has declared a puppy emergency after it recovered more than 1,000 dogs.

The puppies were found at a dog breeding operation in Hillsville in Carroll County.

The owner surrendered most of his dogs because he said he only had a license for 500 puppies.

Carroll County declared a local disaster to get the state's emergency officials and the Red Cross to help care for the dogs.

Just last week, the Humane Society released an investigation saying there were hundreds of puppy mills across Virginia.

The Amish do sell puppies at the market itself.
