Puppy Gas

So our Golden Retriever puppy (Bailey) is now four and a half months old and is coming along just fine. For the last couple of month or so he has had a lot of the worst smelling gas. He farts 4 to 5 times an hour all day and night long.
<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--><o:p></o:p>
We had to change his food from Iams Puppy to Pedigree Puppy. He wouldn’t eat the Iams that we have used exclusively for all of our other Goldens. It took about a week of boiled chicken and rice to get his system accustomed to the new food but he has settled into the Pedigree and is eating well now, but the gas is still blowing. He has had the gas all along both with Iams and Pedigree.
<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--><o:p></o:p>
The only other food that he gets to eat is a few snap beans, to help fill him up and balance his diet, and about a flat tablespoon of yogurt at every meal to help digest his food. His stools are healthy.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cut down on the amount of gas? We don’t need his farts to smell like Chanel #5, but Old Spice would be ok

i changed my dog to a limited ingredient diet (which has no fillers and is a lot better) and she doesn't have stinky farts but she does fart from time to time. I give her the chicken and sweet potatoe and she likes it with boiled chicken in it shredded up that is what she gets for her meals. If I were you I would try that and see how that works mine is for puppies to adults that is what i feed her and its sold in petco.

I suggest that the pup may have an intolerance to corn which is the main ingredient in most dog foods. Try to find a lamb and rice food or the food out there I know is made of venison and rice, but for the life of me I cannot remember who produces it. Corn is a big issue with dogs and allergens.

Both of those foods are not very good...mostly junk food. You should look into a grain free food like Orijen or something like Wellness or California Natural which are great foods but do contain grain but not corn.

Yogurt is okay as a probiotic but acidolphilus works better.

I would definately try a better quality food. In what area of southern MD do you live?

We live in Waldorf. <link rel="File-List" href="file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Bob/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/msoclip1/01/clip_filelist.xml"><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><style> <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --></style> All good solutions. I will start looking into them and make some appropriate changes, thank you.

Wellness helped my Willie girl (skinny stray with a gash in her neck) heal very quickly, gain proper weight, and become a really happy dog. Try the sprinkle acidophilus on the food, don't warm it, if you can't find it just open the capsules.

Good luck.

the main ingredients in brunos food are...sweet potatoes chicken and salomon oil and its got all the vitamins and minerals in it and its grain free.

Its made for dogs with food allergies and its made by dick van patten (sp). It has no corn in it either. I looked at all the ingredients and its only has limited ones in it. You can find this food at petco. or online at petco.com
