I have a 3 Month Yorkie Female and I haven't House Broken a puppy in over 15 years! I NEED SUGGUSTIONS & TIPS . Currently I am keeping her in Bathroom at night and letting her Potty in Mourning when I wake up. This seems to be working , However I hear that I should be using a Small Crate instead of bathroom as a kennel . Also I let her run free in yard to potty, should I contain her to a Small area in yard . Like I said I need HELP

Crate traing is the way to go. A dog that small needs a small area to call her own. The smaller the area the less likley she will be to use it for a bathroom. I also took my dogs outside on a leash, same spot everytime to go potty. And I would keep saying, go potty, go potty. And when they went I would get so excited, clap my hands and say yay, you went potty. Made a little party out of it.They would get excited too and know they did a good thing. I took my mini doxie out every hour and a half to 2 hours when she was a pup. At night she would start whining cause she had to go but did not want to go in her crate. Because of that i will never get another puppy in the winter time. Outside at 2am with snow on the ground was not fun.

roxie i remember those days all too well. We got our dog in feb of last year and then in march it snowed and guess what she wanted to out and play in the snow at 2am she didn't want to go potty and at 2am the last thing i wanted to do was spend an hr playing in the snow but bruno had her mind set on it so I got stuck for a little while and then she finally went to the bathroom and i got to go back to bed.

I agree with roxie crate training is the best way to go.

I sent you a pm please read it has some other stuff i said in it that might be helpful to you.

I have a 2 yr old min pin and he was hard to train. I actually would set a kitchen timer to take him out every hour. Now I have a mini doxie and I was hoping he would catch on following the minpin to the door. Wrong so far. He is getting it some, but not enough. He usually wants to go out and play with the minpin instead of his business. working on starting the crate training now since school has started. My daughter usually let him sleep with her so she took him out. but she needs her sleep now so it is up to me to take over. A small crate worked for the minpin because he did not want to wet in it. Good luck with your new baby! Believe me, I feel your pain with potty training!

I also took a tip from a trainer and taught my pup to ring a bell i hung from the door to tell me when she wanted out. She still uses it to this day, she is almost 5. My other dogs actually learned from her and they ring the bell now to go out. I did not think it would work when i was told about it but i was at my wits end with potty training and was willinhg to try anything.

well most nights bruno sleeps through the night but lastnight she got up at midnight to go pee. One of the tenants that lives here rolled in at midnight when i had bruno outside and she couldn't get into the apt so she stood there and banged on the door for like 10mikkn i went and got my keys and tried to get her in (well the dumbass bf of hers locked hte top lock and there is no key to it) so she stood there and banged some more. I got fed up and told her no more banging if you cant get in call your friend to come back and get you. She then told me she was mad well sorry i can't help you and I am tired so see you later. I bet later when the other 2 tenants get home if the owner is still here I bet they tell him what was going on I already told him I wasn't happy. the dog went crazy for a while too. I bet she woke up my neighbor across the hall and downstairs as shes got a loud bark.

I have a puppy mix pitt bull / american bull dog. I got him at 3 months also. We used a small crate. I basicly treated him as if I was potty training a toddler. I started taking him outside about every 45 mins and I would say, " go potty." He was allowed 2 mins at a time for potty time. He learned real fast what potty meant and he would go on command. He will be a year old in Sept and has only had 2 accidents since we had him and that was in his cage. He has never gone #2 in the house. Once he learned the command of potty, I would then tell him to speak at the back door everytime we went out. Now treats made this work very well. Liver treats from walmart in a little milk carton. My puppy has learned so much and he is so smart. Even now that hes older, he will still go potty on command if I am in a hurry.
