Railroad

Routinely Derailed
Here is the answer which I will give to President Roosevelt... We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire. Neither the sudden shock of battle nor the long-drawn trials of vigilance and exertion will wear us down. Give us the tools and we will finish the job. - Sir Winston Churchill, Radio speech, 1941

Hence the shift from Cash and Carry policy to Lend Lease and FDR's fireside chat explanation about the neighbor's house and loaning him a fire hose.

Also...the pledge to finish Europe first-which we were committed to (even though we lost thousands in the Pacific (Philippines) by May 42.

I really can't support FDR in that decision although Churchill was a very persuasive houseguest at the Whitehouse. Hindsight allows me the comfort of easy-chair musing...We should have let Stalin go head to head with Hitler and have them both collapse. Not that I support Buchannan's recent editorial that "Was WWII worth it?" but I see a big picture of the huge cost of the cold war and say...Japan should have fallen first,...keep the lifeline to Britain open & wait for the Soviets to collapse with tens of thousands of Frozen Germans.(including my Great Uncle Anton).

Good Quote RR!
