Question about Bobcats...

I just heard what I thought was a woman screaming on my porch I sent the hubby out. Well of course my nosey self had to go out there also and there was this dark tan cat with a flat face about as big a pitbull.

I looked on line and it sounded like a bobcat. Do we have them in St. Mary's county?

In My Opinion
not sure about St Marys,
However when I lived in Virginia beach I had a bobcat as a pet.
friend from west Virginia brought a couple kittens back from a trip home and I took one in.
was a great pet.

This thing was on my deck eating the cats food. Do they sound like a woman or baby screeming?

If they are hurt or scared they can sound that way.
If they are pissed they get a real low growl that makes your skin crawl.

Yes, that's what they sound like. I heard one once when I lived up in Frederick....they don't have them there either.

You might want to call DNR tomorrow, they'd be interested to know. If you can get a picture, they might even believe you.

There are those who say we don't have them here, and while I'll admit they are rare, I've heard of them here before.

This article says they are reported "sporadically" in our area
Maryland Newsline - Politics - Special Report: State Symbols

They are certainly more common than bears, and we had one of those.

I didn't see that much black in it but the face and all match. I thought some woman was being beat or a child had gotten lost. Scared me to death

the biggest indicator are the tufts of fur around the cheeks. You can't see them too well in that picture because of the angle.

Oh I will try and get a pic with one foot in my door. I see muddy foot prints on my deck so hopefully there are some outside tomorrow.

My ferals sound like a woman or baby screaming when they are in the woods fighting. It was funny the first time I heard them, I went in the woods thinking that either a woman was in trouble or a baby abandoned. I felt so stupid when I realized it was just cats. :lmao:

This thing was the size of a pitbull. Flat face and all I put more food out just to catch a picture of it to put on here and to turn in.

Don't feel silly I had 91 dialed on my phone when I saw that it was a bobcat/lynx whatever.

well if you keep feeding him, he will be fat and happy and probably pass out in your yard and then you can get some really good pictures!

Does he seem aggressive?
