Question about Film Negatives

While organizing the mountain of photos I have, I came across some negatives that I hadent seen before. From what I can tell, they are pics of my Mother-in-Law. I believe these photos were taken, prior to me meeting my hubby. Mother in law has since passed, and I would love to get these negatives printed.

Question is...where do I get this done? Is it as simple as taking them to Walmart, just as you would a roll of film?

OR you can get them converted to digital.

IF you have a scanner most are compatible with a film/ slide adaptor to scan your negatives and turn them into true digital pictures.

Hmmm...I should check into that. Thanks a lot. FYI: I took the negatives over to Walmart this evening, and got them developed. The pics were from 1978.

What price would I be looking at, for one of those adapters? Also, would it work with my existing Lexmark scanner..or would I need to upgrade?

How "new" is your scanner?

Model Number?

You maybe able to buy the accessory to do it, or today scanners are a dime a dozen and you could probably pick up one with the capability for less than $50

BUT, if I were you I'd go to Staples (in California) and ask for Brian and tell him what you want to do, see what he suggests.

How old are they? I have some I found when my dad passed away. They are from when him and my mom got married and I would love to see them now that they are both gone... I took them in and they are to old to be done there they have to be sent away. They are from like 69 I think.

The ones I got developed today, were from 1978. Funny story...well...not funny for me, anyway:

I was holding the negatives up to the light, and trying hard to make out who the people in the pictures were. I swore I saw my Mother in Law, along with some other of my hubbys family members. My MIL is now gone, and I thought it would be a nice gesture, to get the pics developed for my husband. Imagine the look on my face at the Walmart counter this evening...when I was skimming through the developed pics...and there sat my hubby (not at the time) with his girlfriend! That, my friend, is what you call "PRICELESS".

Umm...it's a cheap Lexmark 2400. All in one. I should upgrade.

I wish you could have seen the look on HIS face! He was sooo happy to see "some" of the pics. He said "this brings back so many good memories"....after that comment, I threw down the "girlfriend" pics, in front of him and said " I bet". It was so funny, he just sat there, and got all red in the face.

I called the kids in, to take a look. Of course, they looked right past the fact that "Daddy had another woman next to him"...and busted out with the comment "OMG, Daddy had hair". :lmao:

Jaclyn, THink of it this way.....add up what you will spend on a new scanner, then photo paper and ink to print them yourself, and think of how many times you can go get things printed for that amount. Remember, the price continues to be more the next time you buy paper or cartridges for the printer. Just something to think about before you get the new scanner.

To think another way.. think of the sentimental toll of losing or having one of these negatives destroyed v. having them archived online and/or on your computer.

I'm going to dig up my photos negatives here soon.. and try to do the same.

Obviously, with the purchase of that scanner you showed me, I will need to invest in a good quality printer, right?

Or, can I SCAN the negatives/prints with the scanner (the one you showed me) and then upload them to be printed through an online photo lab?

<--not very tech savvy.

You can do either, whichever you feel better about.

Personally I like to print my own, but looking at the pictures I printed 2 years ago hanging on my office bookcase, it may be better to go elsewhere.

The photos are serioulsy faded in just 2 years time.

I believe EPSOM ink is archival quality and not supposed to fade, so may look into one of their photo printer. NOT happy with how bad the pictures faded, especially since they get NO sunlight.

Yeah, I didnt think about that. I could probably just get the scanner, in order to archive the photos...and upload only the ones I would like printed, to a place online. Thanks for your input. :howdy:

Yeah. My Lexmark is not good for printing any decent size pictures. Wallets are ok..but anything bigger than that is grainy.
