Question about printing photos

I just recently bought a HP 7200 photo jetprinter from Staples. I also bought a 100 pack of 8.5 x 11 size photo paper. When I go to print photos (mostly black and white old baseball photos) they seem to come out... well not right. I mean from about a foot away they look great, but up close the players bodies look slightly distorted. What settings on my HP software do I need to set so that my photos come out looking like I took them myself?
Any help would be appreciated. :howdy:

Pookieboo!!!
What resolution is the picture?
What is the DPI setting on the printer?
Are you scaling the picture to fit the page?

Ok here is what I currently have set:
paper size: 8.5 x 11
orientation: portrait
print quality: best

Do I select: 1.) Print at actual size?
or
2.) Scale to paper size?
What resolution is the pic? I have no idea what you're even talking about... lol...
Where do I see what the DPI setting is of the printer?

Print at Actual Size, would be my guess.

Hey Sprite,
I did a color, and now I am doing a black and white. The color came out awesome! Let's see how the b&w turns out.

mine has 6 including black.

Ok, all done. Just did 2 colors and a b&w. Both colors came out flawless. The b&w came out the same way as my original issue. I'm baffled now. I don't want to keep on wasting photo paper. That stuff is pricey! :ohwell:

Problem w/ printing B&W is that they are B&W and printer does not have the full gray scale range in inks.

Some of the guys here are way better at this and can explain the WHY of the B&W with digital printing.

I callabrate my monitor to my printer to make sure my gray scale is correct.
I also shoot a a McBeth Color Checker card to help tweek my color.

Good luch with the B&W...and for saving $$$..buy a pack of 4x6 and use that for test prints.
Good Luck!!!:howdy:
