Has anyone ever dealt with a dog that suddenly develops wierd fears?

My dog has suddenly become terrified to ride over bridges. If she looks out the window and notices it, she lays down as low as she can and starts trembling. She will perk her head up every once in a while til we are back on land, and then she perks back up and puts her head back out the window.

She is almost 2 yrs old, and she hass developed other wierd habits she didnt display as a puppy (such as not likeing people - but thats another issue all in itself :) )

Thanks.

Lets see, my dog is afraid of umbrellas because my sister used to pop the umbrella open really fast in front of his poor face, and hoses because she used to spray him all the time, he's scarred for life.

Maybe your dog just doesn't like water, or does she not know how to swim?? Or maybe she had an incident with almost drowning?? If I were you, the next time, I wouldn't let her see that she's riding over a bridge.

I am not really sure how to keep her from knowing she is going over a bridge, expecially the solomons one. She is 70 lbs and I dont crate her in the car.

She does know how to swim. She doesnt particularly care for it too much, but she will splash around in lakes/ocean.

What I dont understand is why it suddenly started. It didnt seem to bother her until about a month ago.

Maybe it’s the height that scares her. We had a corgi that didn’t like to be rolled over on the vet-examining table but was fine with it on the floor.

Maybe it's not bridges... Maybe your baby senses the danger.

It might not be the bridge, possibly the sound of your car tires on concrete vs. asphault, or the divider strips on the bridge making a thumping sound.

That I can agree with. I am always tempted to roll down my windows and take off my seat belt, so that exiting my car will be easier when the bridge collapses :lmao:

I thought about that, but it seems that she perks her head up to see if we are over it or not. Once she sees the trees next to her again she is fine.

My dog has suddenly become terrified to ride over bridges. If she looks out the window and notices it, she lays down as low as she can and starts trembling.

One of my gals, Lily, had responded to my stovetop a while back, over the summer, before she was even six months old perhaps. It wasn't really a big deal - water boiling over, scalding the stovetop, steam rising - but enough to catch her attention, as well as my smoke detector. She caught it before the smoke detector, actually. So, I thought it best to praise her for her efforts - for making me aware of the "smoke"/fire hazzard, etc..

Now, ANYTIME ANYTHING STEAMS, BOILS OR OTHERWISE HEATS IN THAT FRIGGIN KITCHEN, SHE HAS TO LET ME KNOW!

My other gal, Emma, doesn't like to ride in any vehicle that puts her too close to the ground - feeling the ground close to her... The movement gets her carsick. As long as she stays on the seat or is in a larger vehicle with bigger tires, she is fine...

So, maybe your dog senses a distance between her and the ground? WTH do I know?
