When was the last municipality chartered added in Maryland? How much did it cost the state to change all the maps?

The people who live in CRE are paying Road Taxes just like everyone else [and they pay Road Fees on top of that]. The Gas Tax and Vehicle Registration funds are just held at the State level.

The County doesn't get them... CRE doesn't get them... and there are 66 miles of road.

Some time ago Lusby was talking municipality.... but Drum Point and White Sands [understandably] didn't want to pay for CRE roads so the municipality never got anywhere....

Now CRE is considering the question alone...

The reason I bring this question up... I wonder if it would be more expensive for the State to figure out a way to get the taxes into into CRE without having to change all the maps. It would also be difficult to have Lusby surrounding the town of CRE....

And if CRE were to become a town... what would the name be? South Beach? Ranch Town.... Ranch Beach...

When was the last time this was attempted? Does anyone remember how to legislate a Municipality....

A Waldorfer talking about crime????
I'd give Waldorf a more colorful name like Bloodonthepavementville, or maybe I'djustassoonshootyouastalktoyoutown, maybe even PimpandHo City. I lived in CRE for a few years for the record.

In My Opinion
Would it be cheaper to just spray paint the court house with demands of road upkeep?

Dunno 'bout that. Apparently it doesn't work for fixing problems with Child Support payment. :ohwell:

I'm glad that Camily the Crackhead moved away. :yahoo: I'd like to see more of her type gone. The damn druggies give this place a bad name and then have the nerve to complain about it.

The question now is

Would it be less expensive for Maryland to allow CRE to become a municipality [if that's how the membership voted] or legislate a way to allow CRE to receive the fuel tax for their 66 miles of roads... which is currently held at the State level now? :coffee:

It seems like everyone in Calvert County turns around in my driveway but do you think there is a chance Maryland will maintain my drive? CRE is stuck with the STD until the roads are up to County specs and that includes storm drains. You already knew that. Why would any community want an extra layer of government?

It's not likely at all that we are ever going to get the County to take over the Roads in CRE [unless CRE goes belly up and looses the beaches and other amenities too].

Fact is we already have another layer of government... and it's struggling to make even a dent in the upkeep of the roads or amenities on the money the volunteers are collecting from the members.

The people of CRE need to come to the meeting in the Clubhouse on the 25th and have a serious talk about where we are and where we are headed.... You don't have to be a member to come to the meeting..

If the State were to come up with a creative way to distribute the tax money we spend at the pump and vehicle registration into the CRE Roads maintenance and upgrade... we could possibly pull out of the situation we are in.... If the State were to come up with a creative way to convert our M&O fees to some sort of tax credits we would all benefit.... but let's face it... they are already spending our fuel taxes on their own projects and they aren't about to give that money up without a battle [that we really can't $afford$ to fight] and they sure aren't ready to give us a tax credit for our M&O fees...

I'm running for Commissioner.... one of the reasons I decided to run was that CRE and all the other "private" communities in Calvert County need a voice on the Board so that grants and these types of taxes will be hunted down and distributed to the people who pay them and get little or no benefit under the current system.... There is nothing private about 90% of the communities currently classified that way. People are stuck with dams, ravines, roads, and parks that they can't afford to take care of ... there's new money out there but the current BOCC must not have the time or inclination to do anything about finding it...

Let's look at FEMA and MEMA funds.... None of the "private" communities qualify... the only reason CRE and Drum Point got FEMA funds [and mind you we still don't qualify for MEMA as far as I have heard]... was because we have the Special Taxing District. Therefore, they stated, we must have a "quasi" government.... A municipality [or a community that receives State Roads Tax] would qualify for assistance.

I would encourage everyone to look at the facts... Calvert County does not have to listen as long as we don't make them listen... and they should be our loudest advocates at the State and Local Level.... If CRE becomes a Municipality... I will give odds that Drum Point and White Sands will follow...
